Jul 24, 2011 9:35 PM in response to rennsportby wired00,yeah as i mentioned in my edit above, i think ~ 50C is pretty normal. It should be able to handle upto 80C (~176F) atleast before the fans really kick in and cool it down again

Jul 24, 2011 9:46 PM in response to wired00by rennsport,I was trying to so see if Lion would crash. I was playing Minecraft. When it was at 156Ëš But it didn't. So I'm going to continue using the discrete only for awhile to see what happens.
Here is my Menu when using as said before the discrete only with Google Chrome, Mail, Total Finder, Twitter, Bowtie, Cinch, iStat Menus, and of course gfxCardStatus running:

Jul 24, 2011 9:51 PM in response to whetty101by only the lonely..,Count me amongst the ranks of people screwed by Lion.
Not only is my screen black, but after resetting pram and smc I still can't see anything..not even a login screen.
I can hear the volume controls adjust, and my machine is humming away so I know it works.
I was surfing the web when the monitor went totally black.

Jul 24, 2011 10:23 PM in response to Ian Kelleighby bitninja,To everyone using gfxCardStatus: enjoy! Please don't discount the underlying issue, though...the best way to get this on Apple's radar and ensure it's fixed in an update is to file a bug, if you haven't already, at http://bugreport.apple.com. Posting crash logs should also help immensely. Every report counts, so even if you know that someone else has filed one, file one yourself as well!

Jul 24, 2011 10:31 PM in response to whetty101by howawei,I'm having the same problem. I have a 2007 iMac and a 2009 MBP 15" and BOTH are experiencing problems after installing Lion. My Macbook Air (2010) is working just fine. The iMac is just showing a black screen.. if I force a reboot, it starts to load, turns to a white screen, then crashes and reboots again.
My MBP is just hanging at the apple logo startup screen. I keep trying to restart it, but it doesn't go beyond this. Calling Apple support tomorrow.. I hope there is a fix for this..

Jul 24, 2011 11:24 PM in response to howaweiby wired00,well i'd just been testing if forcing Discrete mode would also stop the kernel panics like "integrated" mode alas I've just crashed 3 times in a row. Ironically 2 of those crashes were from running the system profiler export and submit to apple. via Apple > About this Mac > More Info > System Report > File > Export as Text & File > Send To Apple.
I had to run the SYstme profile exports twice after crashing to get it to reliably export
Anyone else able to create the crash by producing a system profile export or send to apple?
Anyway, so seems using "discete" mode to force nvidia doesn't fix things completely.
Anyway, as Cody says, make sure to lodge your bug via bugreport.apple.com

Jul 24, 2011 11:25 PM in response to UCLAMacConvertby black_rider,I've now restored Snow Leopard from Time Machine as others have done. Ten kernel panics in the space of a couple of days are too many... I have to work... but three hours lost today in getting up and running again is a heavy cost plus the lost emails...good luck guys... and thank god for Time Machine...

Jul 24, 2011 11:31 PM in response to black_riderby wired00,Thats what i was worried about... so you did lose all email? in a nutshell what process did you follow to rollback? Losing all my work email is something i can't risk though. If thats the case I'll have to stick with using "integrated" and not have a external screen.

Jul 25, 2011 12:13 AM in response to wired00by black_rider,Just the emails sent since I upgraded to Lion. I restored all of my past emails from Time Machine but clearly those sent/received in the new version of Mail aren't easily recoverable (I haven't investigated further as they weren't that important).

Jul 25, 2011 8:22 AM in response to whetty101by David_Hew,same with me. just did a post on the topic, not realizing there are lots out there (MBP 15 with Nvidia 330M) - clearly a bug in the video driver

Jul 25, 2011 8:39 AM in response to black_riderby Ian Kelleigh,Well switching to Discrete only doesn't fix the problem completely, but it sure made them happen less often (1 per day vs. 5 per day).

Jul 25, 2011 8:48 AM in response to pope123by Nvrflycoach,Yes, this is happening to me as well. Glad I'm not alone, BUT, this is very, very annoying! I'm running a MacBook Pro, 2.66 GHz, Intel Core i7, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3. Like others, it's no specific app that I can figure out.

Jul 25, 2011 9:30 AM in response to whetty101by tiboel,Reporting exactly the same problem runing MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 (NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB). It happens randomly.

Jul 25, 2011 9:36 AM in response to Hawk Duncanby Hawk Duncan,Nevermind - I just had the computer crash again upon opening iPhoto - upgrading my audio interface driver helped with the crashing that my audio interface caused, but now it seems like iPhoto may be causing something else to contribute to my random black screen. I have a 2010 MBP and it will work after I hold the power button then turn it back on.

Jul 25, 2011 9:57 AM in response to whetty101by Ian Kelleigh,If you haven't yet, go into your System Preferences > Click on “Energy Saver” and look for “Restart automatically if the computer freezes”
This helps from having to hold the power down to force a shutdown and restart. Especially if you are like me and use an external display and keep the MacBook closed.
Doesn't fix anything, but makes the freezes easier to deal with.
