Sep 28, 2011 1:21 PM in response to Plexsonby cduerr, before i stumbled across this topic, i assumed my "crash after sleep" may be related to a USB device being connected at one point during Lion has been booted before restart (I normally just sleep my MBP).
Basically, I see my Macbook Pro (also 15" Mid-2010, Core i7 2,66GHz, 8GB) wakes up from sleep, shows the login screen shortly and then immediately goes black, with the machine totally dead from IP as well.
Are there other people who use USB devices and may see a correlation using those devices at one point during the machine is up with an increased probability of a crash? I thought i may sleep my MBP more often if i dont connect either one of my Belkin USB hubs.
FYI: I have the .18 rev of the intel HD plus ...a2 rev of the Nvidia 330M. I cannot recall a crash with a black screen duriing normal operation, except also when plugging in the USB hub. I am using gfxCardStatus, but i am not fixing graphics to the internal intel HD.

Sep 28, 2011 1:53 PM in response to Plexsonby madanan,Plexson, thanks for the info, and yes, please update here. I am in Germany too, and also have contacted Apple Germany, but got no help. I have the feeling they know and care even less than in the States, or it is much more the question of luck to get someone reasonable on the phone.
and I have:
Geräte-ID: 0x0046
Versions-ID: 0x0018
so there is crashing with 0018 too.

Sep 28, 2011 2:54 PM in response to whetty101by testinfected,Just got my macbook back from the apple store today after having my logic board replaced. So far, so good. 6 hours without a BSOD. I can browse photo booth effects, and start a powerpoint slideshow on an external monitor without crashing. Two things that were instant crashes before the repair.
As some of you, I was reluctant at first to go to the apple store, since my warranty is over. I installed the CUDA drivers, that made no difference. I contacted apple support and they suggested to reinstall lion. I did it with the same results. Contacted them again, they recommanded I reinstall snow leopard and wait for a software fix. I was about to do that but I tried my luck and went to the apple store, showed them the photo booth crash. They told me it could be a software issue, they had to test. I could see on the face of the genius guy he knew about the problem, even if he would not admit it. After running some tests with a fresh lion install on a external drive, they called me back to say they would replaced my logic board for free.
It thinks it confirms the hardware issue. I suggest you guys try to get your logic board replaced.

Sep 29, 2011 12:59 AM in response to whetty101by Zehwuh,Still have to use Mac OS for some tasks requiring an external monitor, and therefore I just black screened after opening spotlight, before even searching for a file.
The response I've gotten from Apple on phone and written in an email is that they know about the problem, but the engineers don't know any solution to it yet. They basically just told me to update everything in Software Update (it's of course up to date), run a hardware test and if that doesn't show any problems: live with it.
Wonder how much trouble I'd have to go through to get my money back or a replacement product...

But seriously, if its that bad, the best solution is to revert to Snow Leopard:

Sep 29, 2011 9:24 AM in response to softwaterby Tess888,A much better suggestion...I spent the entire day working in Windows 7 yesterday (because I had to at work), and my only response is NO WAY. Updating to Lion was no picnic, but I have a refined appreciation now for all things Apple after having to go back for a day to Windowsland.

Sep 29, 2011 10:00 AM in response to whetty101by Plexson,Hello,
I recently called Apple Germany again and got directly connected to a very nice Apple Supporter.
After I told him everything about the problem and the things I read here, he wanted me to do a "Capture Data" , a data log of everything when the laptop crashes.
He would then send this to the Apple - Engineers.
But, as it would be better to do this on a complete clean installation of Mac OS, I should install Lion onto a HD which is completely empty.
So I'm going to install another harddisk in my macbook, install Lion on it and, if it crashes, what I would expect, send him the Capture Data.
The Supporter was, all in all, very interested in the black - screen problem and how to solve it.
So, I will do this on Monday, then I will post again.

Sep 29, 2011 11:12 AM in response to whetty101by SanctionOne,Finally said F____ It and went ape **** on apple, "in a professional way", went something like this... "You know I just purchased this $2500 "computer" (refuse to call this thing a "mac" or "pro" until it's fixed) about a year ago. Now I have went ahead and Upgraded!?!? to Lion only to end up subscribing to a forum thread that is 101 pages long about why I shouldn't have... How dare they by default auto subscribe you to a thread that by definition only reaffirms how many other people feel just like you. Boggles the mind to say the least.
After pointing out this thread to multiple represenatives etc, enginieering finally just got word back to me today that there only solution is rolling back. DOES THIS LOOK LIKE WALMART TO YOU...? I said emphatically. Are you telling me that your core clients all should be used to this type of behavior because wally world has done it for years? "Unacceptable" was used a lot. I actually got so used to throwing that one around, when they finally gave way to my suggestion for the logic board replacement, I almost told them... UNACCEPTABLE! But I caught myself and it's now in the works. So... NEW PARTS I told them... NEW, because I just have to have the 2nd page of effects in photobooth. Haven't been able to do any COOL effects since Lion...geesh.
So hannnnggggg in there fellas, hope my story gives someone a little hope. I'll report back once I get it replaced this weekend. Wish a fellow integrated graphics only, haven't seen an external monitor in weeks and had it up to here guy some luck!
