2) the new RAM you installed pushed your graphicsprocessor over the edge.
I thought the same. I lean towards the first though, since the problem began a few days after the introduction of Lion. My RAM was installed a few weeks before. -

Then I'll say it again : I have the same gear (MBP6,2 i7) and the same problem although I NEVER UPGRADED TO LION !
Still running 10.6.8.
In this forum, it's also been said that going back to SL didn't solve anything.Just so you don't bother...
Oh, crap! We are doomed then.

you led me to the idea to install SL 10.6.3 from cd and do not update it to 10.6.8. I'll try.

Oct 9, 2011 11:44 AM in response to gree_shantiby Jeffois,Thoughts?
If I'm on 10.6.8, and I'm running fine, can I expect to be fine in Lion? I've been holding off because of this thread and other reports!

Oct 9, 2011 11:56 AM in response to Jeffoisby RichHolland,I was running trouble-free on 10.6.8 and experienced my first BSOD the day after I upgraded to Lion.
In case you haven't read my previous posts, I eventually got a logic board replacement. Since then, graphics still appear "glitchy," but I haven't had a BSOD.
-
Oct 9, 2011 12:04 PM in response to Jeffoisby dakardave,I'd say no. Most people have experienced the BSOF only after installing Lion and then it continued even when they went back to Snow Leopard. I am only aware of one person (Mr Cheesebelt) who has had the BSOD without ever upgrading to Lion. (or should I say downgrading to Lion?)

But if there was a firmware update in the graphics processor during the Lion or 10.6.8 update then as far as I know it would not be wiped even if you were to install an older operating system? Does anyone know for sure?
If not then maybe we should all go back to Tiger.

Oct 9, 2011 12:31 PM in response to whetty101by jeanfromdionysos,Like RichHolland above had the first black screen when I upgraded in less than 5 minutes of use. Had 5 to 20 reboots daily until 10.7.2 when I decided to bite the bullet and return to 1.6.3 (had the original installer discs). Clean install with manual transfer of mail folders, apps, etc. Very lengthy process and not for the faint hearted, as both Mail and Address Book had moved to new formats not compatible with the versions on SL.
Returned to 10.6.3 and updated to 10.6.8. After 2 weeks of use (8hrs/daily) I have had 1 black screen on wake with a monitor switch. Overall it is back to the pleasurable experience using the mac despite the single hitch.
-----------
My advice, if you can't get your hardware replaced (or you cant afford to be without a computer for a day) is to stick with 10.6.x and check back this thread for news.

Oct 9, 2011 3:19 PM in response to whetty101by Trancendence,I've got a 2011 MBP running lion 10.7.1 with i7 2.2Ghz Quad, AMD Radeon 6750m that appears to have the same issue.
I've mainly noticed it blacks out when running After Effects CS5 - nothing major 49 layers in a 1:30m 1920x1080 scene rendering through openGL with 768mb allocated for textures.
None of the images are over 1.5mb...
Super frustrating when your trying to do your job and have to hard reset all the time.. (-_-' )

If the Show Dowloads crash is the only thing, I will consider myself very lucky. So it's been a week with Lion and I have had two crashes from pushing that button. At first I thought it always black screened after it happened two times in a row, but I just tried again and it didn't cause the black screen! Just to be on the safe side, I'm using Firefox for a while. I started running gfxCardStatus but I have not changed to Integrated only.
You'd think Apple would thoroughly test a new OS version on all their hardware. This is almost as bad as Linux and it's not like Apple is trying to support all sorts of wacky systems. Or giving away Lion for free....
