Try updating Flash, if you haven't done this already...I was getting some crashes and freezes out of nowhere, but after updating Flash, all is well again...it's a real buggy program...they have a new version that's just been out a couple of days...

I had the exact same problem with you and Apple said they'd fix my MacBook. But they called me yesterday and said that there were some "coffee stains" inside my computer! I'm sorry, but I've never had coffee near my computer, period. I've never taken off my keyboard protection. So how on earth can there be coffee stains inside my computer? Is apple unwilling to fix my MacBook?! Or is it just the HK apple store? Does anyone think that they'll allow a trade in if I ask for it?

I have the same problem after upgrading OSX Leopard to OSX Lion now on 10.7.1

    Black Screen Crash !

I think Apple's amazing disregard and not give even any notes about the subject. Even with so many users with problems.

    My MBP is:

    MacBook Pro 15 (2010 Mid)

    4GB RAM

    320 HD

    Geforce 330M

    OSX Lion 10.7.1

The tech support guy I talked to said Apple was completely aware of the problem, however no time frame for a solution was given.

I don't remember this being an issue with the GM - maybe something in 10.1? Strange, my 10.1 worked fine for several weeks, now Black Screen (BS!)  will always occur if charged overnight and opened from sleep.

I have it set to integrated graphics - problem is 'better' but I still get a black screen upon opening.  I just disconnect the charge, then reconnect and it is fine.  MBP has to sleep for a long time with charger, but the problem is still there (and very annoying).

I thought about going back to 10.6.8  (I have a full back up, which surprisingly many apple owners don't).  Lion is growing on me, and at this point it is worth the inconvenience.  Even silly launchpad is useful (but not on a Mac Pro).

However, Apple really MUST fix this problem.

If you haven't, please schedule a support call (phone or store visit).    You can schedule a call even if you are out of warranty.  We need to keep "B**'ing and whining" until the problem is fixed.

The BS problem seems to vary from MBP to MBP.  Mine is a 2.8 from 2009.  When you get a BS, see if unplugging the charger makes a difference.

I also noticed no problems with the 10.7 betas or GM release. BSOD began happening almost immediately upon installing the retail version from the App Store. I'm not sure what it means, but it's an interesting observation at least...

Kevin2i...just for the heck of it, try closing Safari completely before putting your MBP to sleep. In Lion many programs like mail, Safari, Firefox, Pages, etc are still open, even when you close down with the red dot to the left. Quit your browsers completely in the dock or command line and see if it helps the infamous sleep issue...

    Hi @ all,

I see a very interesting coincidence with freeze- and BSOD-issues withWIN7-PCs and certain SSDs. Same story there:

    1. Some have problems, others (with the same hardware components) not
    2. Very often users with issues have BSODs after sleep-mode (S3)
    3. It’s not possible to reproduce the BSODs, but it’s clear that a certain compilation of BIOS, SSD-firmware, controller, MoBo, … leeds to freezes and BSODs.
    4. SSD can crash in a certain system, and same SSD work without issues in another system
    5. Freezes occur very often, when browsers are open.

I suspect that the BSOD-problem here could have the same cause. Maybe the issue is not with Apple, but at a hardware supplier. In this case a non-disclosure agreement could make an official statement impossible.

The problem is obviously very complex. I suspect that corrupt power-cycles are the cause of the BSODs.
Lion could be the trigger for the problem, but I suspect that Lion is not really the problem. The issue is IMHO hardware & software related. The resolution is for sure not easy to find, but in the meantime the problem remains extremely annoying and irritating for the affected users.

guys, I think I understand, its not apple's software or firmware problem. nvidia didn't provide updated drivers for Lion for this graphic cards. I downloaded last updated driver for SL from nvidia website http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-macosx-256.02.25f01-driver.html , tried to install it and my macbook pro tell me that "This computer will not support this NVIDIA graphics solution."

    thoughts?

I have a clean (wiped HD, installed OS X Lion from USB, restored files manually from extern HD) 10.7 install and 10.7.1 update. I still get this problem, which suggests that wiping the HD and re-installing etc. may not be an effective use of your time. My money's on an OS X bug causing this issue. Lion has it's charms (well, gestures) but my MBP is crashing almost daily, it's FUBAR.

Ive gone back and forth from snoleo to lion..

i currently have two partitions on my HD, one running lion(MacHD), and one running sno leo (Mac HD2)..  (this is through direction and testing from applecare) the lion one BSODs constantly the sno leo does not.  interesting huh?

btw - i use only sno leo now cuz im in college and dont have time to fight for a logic board that applecare told me wouldnt fix my problems.. which they said the engineers told them.. the engineers are evidently aware of the problem and working to fix it.  and yes, no ETA.. fml..

im fine in sno leo, and im avoiding the computer drama this way... i like lion, but not THAT much..

Hello. My macbook pro 2010 with nvidia 330 graphics has a lot of problems too. Black screen, kernel panic...I work with final cut pro x and I have a lot of freezes. Impossible to work with it. I hope apple is working on the solucion. This laptop is very expensive and is my work tool. If i have wanted crashes I would buy pc with windows!

I went to the apple store last night with my dad for reenforcements and it was a total success! My dad went into hysterics about the Bsod and they referred us to a technician who used to have the same model as us and knew of the problem well. He told us they would fix it overnight and I got an email this morning saying my MacBook was ready for pickup! So keep trying! I think the more upset you seem the more they're willing to help.

On a side note, I think they were trying to fix my computer with software, because when the technician showed us the logs, it showed that the kernel panics stopped after I dropped it off last week. And the MacBook was able to run without crashing while in discrete mode. So many there progress regarding the software fix?

Add me to the list of unhappy customers. Just got this one a few weeks ago. Had 1 BSOD under snow leopard in one week. BSODs averaging >10 day after upgrading to lion. Anything video or graphics intensive will faithfully produce a BSOD after about 10 minutes. Flash video, video in iTunes, switching full screen spaces, photo booth effects....

I read an old article online about a tech who managed over 200 MBPs that were having sleep issues all the way back in Leopard. They would go to sleep, but they randomly had difficulty waking up...the BSOD, overheating, the lit keyboard, etc. In order to achieve some sort of control over all of these computers, he disabled automatic sleep completely...the MBPs could be put to sleep with the sleep command or by closing the cover. This is sleep mode 5...this was the end of his problem.... Not a perfect fix, but not a big deal either. If and when I ever find this article again, I'll post the link here... This problem has been around intermittently for a long time.
