Oct 13, 2011 8:52 AM in response to whetty101by nest18,I was about to update my MBP i7 2.66mhz with 8g ram and the famous NVIDIA GT 330M card ... good thing I stumbled upon this tread....
My computer was built the 16th week (April) of 2010 ... and already on SL I have sometime a grey screen (snow) on the external upon wake-up .... only way to cure was to unplug external screen then replug.
I did not purchase applecare, so I guess I'll wait till an update comes with a solution before I upgrade ... will bookmark that tread and KB

Oct 13, 2011 9:39 AM in response to whetty101by vea1083,Hello,
Apple has released a AppleCare support article awknowledging the black screen issue in the 15" mid-2010 MacBook Pro model made between April 2010 and February 2011. Apple seems to be working on a firmware update that will be issued via Software Update.
You can look at the article here:

Oct 13, 2011 10:19 AM in response to gatesbusterby Tess888,Yes, I did have the BSOD problem from the minute I upgraded tp Lion...BSOD coming out of sleep and with certain programs, and kernal panics and freezes...like all of you here. It also persisted through 10.7.1--I eliminated some old software, upgraded printer drivers and raw file handling, and over the days and weeks, the problems went away...guess I just got lucky. It's been stable for over a month now, so I guess it's OK...my computer was manufactured in April 2010, I believe in week 15.

did you have the BSOD issue with 10.7.1 or the first lion. If you did not have any issue, then your machine was fine and your logic board ok

Oct 13, 2011 10:27 AM in response to whetty101by aalvarezp,Hello.. I have a macbook pro early 2011 and I'm experiencing the same issue. Just for the record: I've noticed that while using boot camp, when it seems like the screen is going to go black once again, Windows 7 detects that there's an issue with the AMD driver, restarts the driver and the computer keeps working fine. It gets to a point where it just goes black again after using the computer for several hours though.
Mac OS X Lion is pretty much unusable right now, so this is the only chance I get at using my mbp.
I went to an apple official retailer (I'm outside the US and there's no Apple Store here) and they have ordered a replacement logic board.

Oct 13, 2011 12:13 PM in response to whetty101by Paulol,The official launch date of the new line of Macbook pro in 2010 was April 13.
And I have bought my macbook pro i7 (15") in April 2010 the same week it was launched in Portugal and almost all over the world. So, everyone who bought the macbook pro at launch wil have a manufactured date of March, more precisely, Production week: 12 (March).
So it must be some kind of mistake from them. They should have written Computers bought from April 2010 and February 2011.
I just hope they finally work on this issue. -
Oct 13, 2011 12:21 PM in response to whetty101by selectormoldy,I'm on an early 2008 20" iMac and after updating to 10.7.2 I am experiencing intermittant black screen which is only resolved by a hard reboot. I did not experience this issue with Snow Leopard or 10.7/10.7.1.

Oct 13, 2011 12:43 PM in response to gatesbusterby Tess888,The following is the correct info on my MBP manufacture date:
Model: - MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) (CTO) Codename: - ? Build Country: - Your Mac was built in Changhai, China. Build Year: - Your Mac was built in 2010. Build Week - Your Mac was built in week 18 of that year (April). Production Nr.: - Your Mac was number 1129 to be built that week. I went to the chipmonk site posted here, but the information was incorrect. Apple now has a website where you can check out when your computer was manufactured:

Oct 13, 2011 1:32 PM in response to whetty101by ariel_mf,I don´t know why they are doing so much problem with the dates of production. Nowhere says production date. And if it saysclearly: Products Affected
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010). Simple just go to the Appleicon in the menu bar and make click in "about this mac", then "more information" and there has to say 15-inch, Mid 2010. They set April 2010 because it is the official release date of the product, but again, nowhere does it say manufactured in April!, It is understood that if some were launched in April will have beenmanufactured before.
Mine is April. Sorry for my English, I hope you understand. -
Oct 13, 2011 1:42 PM in response to Paulolby brpkd2,My macbook pro 2010 is from march (12th week) and under apple's page to look up serial numbers:
http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php
it says:
LOM Support: - Not Supported Introduction: - April 2010 Discontinued: - February 2011 Diagnostics: - Unknown Weight: - 5.6 pounds (2.54 kg) so when apple releases a statement saying the april 2010 - february 2011 macbook pros are having this flaw, they are also referring to those built in the 12th week (march) because they were built before they were released. SO, our march computers are included in the statement!
this means they are working on it for all of us with macbook pros (15-inch, mid-2010)..
