Oct 25, 2011 9:14 AM in response to Victor Hoffmannby benwatts660,Same here Victor. I am a bit nervous claiming this at such an early stage but my target machine appears also to be cured..
Result obtained by not bothering to visit Genius bar, or any Apple shop, but just wait patiently for a fix, while using GFX software to control the video cards.
It appears also that my Boot Camp partition of Windows 7 is also cured..
I too am signing off this thread and wish all the rest of you the same success.

Oct 25, 2011 9:20 AM in response to whetty101by Allyn Martin1,After applying the MBP2010 Graphics update I am getting a Mad Whirrling Fan!!!! CPUs going NUTS now!

Oct 25, 2011 9:29 AM in response to whetty101by ricochetrabbit,I upgraded the software last night and my MBP2010 has not crashed. Is anyone else having an issue with their automatic graphics switching? My mac will not switch between both and iStat doesn't indicate the change (and in "About This Mac" as well).

Oct 25, 2011 9:32 AM in response to whetty101by zeroMPHfallover,Just a heads up to those of you reporting success:
I also achieved immediate success after applying the update, in the sense that I was able to push my computer past it's "normal" breaking point (where it typically would have BSOD'd) for a few hours last night.
Then, at work this morning, it BSOD'd immediately after signing in. Then it did it 3 more times immediately after rebooting and signing in. Update seemed to work at first, but after leaving it overnight, BSOD's are back and frequent as ever.
Re-launched gfxCardStatus to maintain a usable computer.
Booked an appt at the Genius Bar where I'm going to demand a free repair as per Apple's KB article on the issue.

Oct 25, 2011 9:49 AM in response to whetty101by elio.dainese,After the update I've tried the (mine) well-tried methods to generate the problem (clic on right arrow into Photo Boot effectes, launching all original OSX apps at the same time) and I wasn't able to reproduce the BSOD again..
Hope for the best...

Oct 25, 2011 10:01 AM in response to whetty101by Ian Kelleigh,Running on external 22" display with MacBook closed, I still get BSOD after about an hour of playing games on Steam. Fans were really running high. Everything else works pretty well however, it's just not going to play nicely with games.
Made a Genius Bar appointment for this week, hoping that at this point they have been properly instructed on how to handle the issue quickly and without hassle.

Oct 25, 2011 10:02 AM in response to bootareenby Tess888,I noticed that as well...Safari is not such a memory hog anymore! Even though this update didn't help everyone on this forum, everyone should at least get a functional computer eventually with Apple's 1 year extended warranty...

This fixed the issue for me, but it also fixed Safari's memory leak. Anyone else?

Oct 25, 2011 10:16 AM in response to Tess888by Ian Kelleigh,No, that's not the issue. Steam runs just fine, it's the games that really heat up the system that cause the problem. They worked fine until Lion.

I would suggest resetting the SMC to fix the fan noise issue, check this Apple Support Article:

You may also want to reset your PRAM and NVRAM:

Oct 25, 2011 11:00 AM in response to Ian Kelleighby Tess888,I had VMware 3.1.3 installed in Snow Leopard and it worked great...never a blip...then I installed Lion, and although it was supposed to work, it was awful on my system...fading graphics, missing mouse pointers, overheating, and sometimes the BSOD...When version 4 came out, I installed it again and all issues were gone (this was wa before the current update)...perhaps something similar is going on...just a thought...

Oct 25, 2011 11:12 AM in response to whetty101by massimilianofrom,I'm having the same problem. iMac with Lion installed goes on sleep mode while i am using it. It happens so frequently that it bothers me to finish this post. Apple used to be a reliable company before becoming 'big'. I feel that they do not test their software enough before launching them on the market. I got big problems with iPhone ios 5 too. If that's the case, they should lower the price of the hardware. It's not worth it anymore.
