Update didn't work either here. It's so disappointing what Apple cam up with so far.

By any chance, do you have LogMeIn installed on your computer? In Lion it causes the sleep problems you describe...your Console app should have some info on this issue as well...

I'm having the same problem. iMac with Lion installed goes on sleep mode while i am using it. It happens so frequently that it bothers me to finish this post. Apple used to be a reliable company before becoming 'big'. I feel that they do not test their software enough before launching them on the market. I got big problems with iPhone ios 5 too. If that's the case, they should lower the price of the hardware. It's not worth it anymore.

Same, after the update my MBP just crashes less often.  It seems that Apple has just raised the breaking point.  I started using VMs again, and that pushed my MBP to crash.  May be a different issue all together though.

You're very welcome...IMHO, not every third party software vendor has caught up with Lion yet... from other forums and posts on the Internet I've read that Skype is supposed to problematic with Lion...also, Mackeeper is supposed to be horrible...do a Google search and try and find out how to get it off your machine, From what I understand, it's not easy to do... https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3057579?start=15&tstart=0

    Good Luck...

Just noticed that http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088 has been edited to say:

Affected computers were manufactured between April 2010 and February 2011.

It used to say March 2010.

My computer was built in March (Week 13).

If this is Apple's way of telling my I'm SOL then I'm going to be super mad.

I've had complete success with this method before the patch came out on October 24. I keep forgetting to post this up, but I remembered after software updates pop a message up.

This method worked for me. No crashes. No Death Screens.

    1. Backed up My entire hard drive
    2. Deleted my entire hard drive's partition
    3. Had my notebook serviced at the Apple Store and had my logic board replaced completely
    4. Showed a copy of my Lion Receipt from the App Store to the Genius Bar Rep and had them reinstall Lion using the server install method (15 minute install time WOW...)

    The issue was completely resolved.

I suspect the issue lies when you upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion. If you had a previously had an installation of Snow Leopard, something does not migrate over properly and thus we see the crashing issue.

I've talked with a few friends and they said they too did a direct Lion install with no installation of Snow Leopard. They also have not experienced any death screens.

I would love to validate this process completely. If anyone does or does not have success with this method, please give a shout.

That is interesting, I guess I know what I will do now.  To replace the logic board do you have to be part of the Apple protection plan?

DragonBeer, Tim_dba and others still experiencing problems

If you have the mid 2010/early 2011 15" MBP, your issue is most likely hardware. Apple is repairing ALL 15" MBPs in that model year that are deemed to qualify after diagnostics at a authorized Apple service centre. If you have a model other than the one noted, e.g. 17" 2010 model, 2011 model etc, I suggest you request the system be checked out and any repairs needed be carried out free of charge.

According to Apple's KB article they are covering only the 15" 2010 MBPs(All 2010 15" MBPs sold between the release date of April 2010, and the discontinued date of February 2011), which IMO is pretty stupid considering there were quite a few 17" models that also experienced the issue under both Lion and SL; users with affected systems still exhibiting the issue after applying the update with Lion should demand they be covered.

Just got off from a heated AppleCare conversation about the Black Screen Bug issue, in my case which occurs at the moment my computer logs in and the monitor then lights up when it reaches the desktop, and although I repeadetly stated that Apple had awknowledged the black screen bug issue, AC was saying that this issue was not part of it.

For the first time in my life I am regretting the purchase of my MacBook Pro, I just should have bought a PC for almost half the price and with less annoying issues.

Update did not solve the problem for me. After waking up my MacBook Pro 15'' mid 2010 and checking my emails, suddenly there was the Black Screen of Death. About 10 minutes after waking up. On Thursday I will phone to the Apple Authorized Service Provider and the have to fix the problem or give me a new MacBook Pro.

I hear you zeroMPHfallover. Mine was made in Week 11 and I'm praying that this resolves the issue.

My only recourse is their statement at the bottom of the link.

Note: If your 15-inch MacBook Pro is not experiencing any of these symptoms, you do not need to contact Apple.

Apple will service affected 15-inch MacBook Pro computers free of charge until two years from date of purchase. Apple will provide further extensions to this program as needed. This worldwide Apple program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the affected MacBook Pro.
