Installed the graphics update on my Mid-2010 MacBook Pro after upgrading to 10.7.2 from Snow Leopard and continue to see freezing. Took it in to an Apple Store in Houston last night and showed them the KB article about the update that included the verbaige about Apple covering any repairs from 2 yrs of purchase date (because I do not have Apple Care). They started that ominous video test and when it was about 30% in to it they no logner wanted to wait so they ordered a logic board replacement, free of charge.

I should get it back in 2 - 4 days so we shall see how it works. If it does not fix the issue I am not sure what I am going to do. I will be happy with a replacement of similiar spec from the current lineup with the better ATI card. If they tell me to wait (again!) for another software update I may just be done with Apple for good.

I love their products but if they cannot take care of me and their product then I will talk with my money.

I'm getting a free logic board replacement.

Hope that fixes this 'cause I'm done troubleshooting.

    Seek advice from Italy.

Macbook pro4/2010. Did not upgrade to lion yet because of BSDO issue and waiting for the fix but it seems now that there is no choice that change for new board. Most people did not solve the problem with the update.

My Macbookhas been bought in USA (April 2010) but now I live in Italy (Rome). Has anyone had replaced mother board (for free) here in Italy even if warranty expired?

Would people here (in Rome) honor the special warranty extension for this issue, even if machine has been bought in USA?

    Any previous experience?

    Thanks foradvice

    Hi,

Since i have same as your case, i'm interested to know if our current logic board is damaged after the upgrade and they would be replacing with same part number or specs or the fix is by using a different logic board part number that is better suitable to operates with Lion.

The reason of my curisity on this is that i wanted to know if our board is damaged or simply is not well functional with lion.

Maybe some people can share an opinion on this because i haven't see explanation on this part.

    Cheers

It's just a faulty batch of logicboards which manifests itself mainly in 10.7. (Although of course there are also users with 10.6 who have problems.)

So for everyone: upgrade your Mac to Lion, check if your it goes black or freezes regularly and ask a logicboard replacement. If you just stay in 10.6 to avoid problems, in the end your logic board will die too.

At least, that's what I think.

    Hello from Germany again,

yesterday I got my MacBook Pro back from FMS Computer ( after almost 2 weeks ).

They could reproduce the crash, then they took a mainboard they had in their shop, tested it -> still crashing.

They said, after some calls with Apple they could finally order a new logic board for free!

Now, Lion is running perfect, even without the Graphics Update I had not had a single BSOD until now.

So, for those living in Germany: the guys at FMS Computer should know about the issue and fix the Laptop for free.

    Greetings,

    Plexson

I made an appointment at Genius. What do I need to show them and what do I have to say to get the new logicboard and not the old one???

I can´t find the article where the issue is explained....

    Success!

Long story short: MacBook pro mid 2010 April built. BSOD 20 mins after lion installed. Genius refuses to replace logic board because it's out of warranty + problem cannot be duplicate in store

    Solution:

Temporary solution. Download the gfxCardStatus app and keep on integrated

Proper solution: proving to the genius guy at the apple store that you are related to this article TS4088 read below:

I called apple and visited apple store at lease 7 times with many different attempts to fix it without paying $600. All attempts failed. Those included. Reinstallation, with or without time machine back up recovery.tried manual username replacement. Nothing worked. Even tried downgrading to snow leopard and windows 7. Still BSOD. I think it's because lion had permanently changed the firmware or something. I don't know.

Anyway. In my last visit I showed the article to the same Genius guy at the apple store. I also stressed the fact that this issue happened after lion and an app gfxCardStatus fixes it and apples updated didn't. He noted down the problem and said if your computer passes the test we have for it. We will replace logic board for free as per the article extended the warranty. I said ok sounds good.

I come back after two days to pick it up and he said we could not replicate the problem. I was so frustrated. I asked him to run the test in front of me and show me how it passes it. He said ok.

He restarted in THE SAFE MODE! and plugged it into some wire and started the test. Took a long while and the mbp seemed to handle the test well. I started moving the mouse around. I added 6 desktops and started switching between them. I then went minimizing and maximizing like crazy. I started opening random programs. Anything that could start in a safe mode (while the test was running) used all geatures of the pad! I just wanted to stress the graphics card as much as possible and recreate the BSOF while at apple. The genius gave me this look which I almost read on his face calling me what a *******. Anyway suddenly it goes BSOD HAHAHAHAHA. People of this forum. The look on his face was priceless. Anyway I don't blame the guy. He was just doing what he was told. But he def under estimated ppl of this forum

I thank all of you for contributing to this. Because I finally got my logic board replaced for free after a 3 months fight! Everything I learned and used to argue with the genius  because of your posts! I read every single one of them. Thank you

And all the best to those who are gonna go back to genius bar! Make sure you ask them to perform the TS4088 article test in front of you (if they can't duplicate the problem) ask for genius appointment same day you pick it up.  Stress the graphics card as much as you can. **** if you think you need to practice at home how to do it then go right ahead. Make sure you are able to force BSOD in the safe mode though. Because that is the test environment in apple store.

    All the best!

So, today I made a good experience with Apple Support.

Yesterday I had made an appointment at the Genius Bar and today I went there. I explained what the problem was and he told me that he has already read the article and gathered some more informations about this issue.

He ran the first hardware test: Everything was fine.

After that he ran a secound hardware test, which is specificly for the 2010 mid MBP´s with this issue (I didn´t even know about this test before, must be a new one). RESULT: Failed. That´s a good result for me because now I get my Logicboard replaced (Part Nr: 661-6360) sometime next week, of course free of charge: He emphasized this extra!!

    Apple has regained my trust!

    Thanks
