hey where do you get the article about the warranty?
For the MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010), Apple posted a knowledge base article that mentions the warranty at the end:

Feb 17, 2012 5:58 PM in response to whetty101by Herrin811,Im curious to know if anyone in this thread has tried the Dev release of Mountain Lion and has had the same problem? I wonder if this could be one reason Apple has rushed 10.8 out so quickly after 10.7?
If anyone out the is a Dev and can try it out, lets here what the results are...

Feb 17, 2012 7:01 PM in response to kspesby Krag,Apple replaced the logic board in my 2009 MBP 13" --- is why I always buy Apple Care when I buy a new laptop or iMac, but not for a Mini.

Feb 17, 2012 7:04 PM in response to whetty101by Dugby,If OS 10.8 fix's the BSD that came with Lion 10.7, then those that bought the bad Lion 10.7 should get it free.

Feb 17, 2012 9:07 PM in response to Dugbyby CF9,I was thinking the same....unfortunately, my MBP (2.16 GHz C2d w/ ATI Radeon X1600 video card) won't be supported by 10.8. I don't mind having spent the $30; it just gets frustrating dealing w/ all these crashes/system freezes.. And I don't expect Apple to support older hardware forever. Just fix Lion please!!

Feb 19, 2012 3:42 AM in response to Herrin811by rapid10,I've installed 10.8 on my Firewire hdd. It runs much smoother than Lion, but there are also these black screens. I just downloaded Skype and started it. Search for an app in the Mac App Store and *boom* Black Screen.
Sorry Apple, but now I will take legal help, to get a new MacBook Pro.

Feb 19, 2012 12:02 PM in response to whetty101by LM3870,Hi All,
I have a mid 2010 MBP 17 with the Nividia GEForce 330M chipset and have had 2 kernal panic crashes with grey/blck screens since going to Mac Lion. I've also had 2 "screen flicker" freezes that required a power down, but no kernal panic crash - seem image below - anyone experience this problem ??
I found the following from Apple, that I'm trying now: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4110
I saw the earlier post about Apple replacing MBP mid 2010 15 logic boards, but they haven't extended it the 17's ,although the logic board appears to be the same as the 15.

Feb 20, 2012 4:10 AM in response to LM3870by Paulol,I've had this same problem on my Macbook Pro 15'' mid 2010. I've experienced the black screen many, many times and the same thing that shows on your picture. What i did before i went to an apple support was to document every single crash i had and present it to them.
When I got to the store I explained the problem, I presented them the knowledge base article, i showed them the link to this forum, showed them the pictures and the text files with all the errors the black screen came up with.
When I got there they ran the diagnosis and everything was ok with my laptop. But they had substantial material to know that something was up. So they switched the motherboard.
I can't tell you that everything is 100% ok, because it's not. Sometimes my Macbook just freezes, for no apparent reason. It really ***** that we bought this very expensive machine and with a change in the OS it ruined the experience that Apple brags about.

Feb 20, 2012 8:03 AM in response to Paulolby LM3870,Thanks much for the input. How did you document the blck screen issue - is there something specific in the log files I should look for?
I changed my settings so only the Nvidia gpu is being used and got a blck screen only after using an external monitor, same condition as before. However, I was able to recover without powering down by force quitting the front most application via a key combination, after waiting several minutes.
Also, did you experience any kernal panic crashes after the Lion upgrade?

Feb 22, 2012 6:57 AM in response to nickfrompalo altoby Yong Seong,Just retrieved my MacBook Pro Mid 2010 15" from QCD (Apple Authorize Service Centre in Singapore) today.
This is my second Logic Board Replacement (this MBP still under 3 year extended warranty).
First replacement didn't solve the problem.
This one seems okay so far, no black-screen-of-death till now. Will try to see if things get worse (like some other experience before). Have my fingers crossed.
Btw, the graphics card info on this new Logic Board is attach, just in case someone need that ROM # of NVIDIA chipset for reference.

Feb 22, 2012 8:25 AM in response to Yong Seongby LM3870,Your specs are interesting, the only difference with my mid 2010 MBP 17, is the "gMux Version" which in 1.9.22 on mine vs yours is 1.9.21 !

Feb 22, 2012 8:42 AM in response to whetty101by rbenoit,I will offer this information again, since there are still so many posts on this subject. I have a mid-2010 MBP 17" running Lion 10.7.2 (I haven't applied the latest patch yet as there are plenty of issues with it). I have NOT had my motherboard replaced and HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A BLACK SCREEN OR SYSTEM HANGS and I have automatic graphics switching enabled in the power saver system prefs. I followed previous recommendations to avoid issues before upgrading to Lion. Please see my previous posts to find that info. Here is my system info:

Feb 22, 2012 10:56 PM in response to sd0084by sd0084,Apple replaced my logic board free of cost (in Hyderabad, India). I have stressed graphics switching by using time machine, Photo Booth, Face Time, all in several combinations. There has been no crash yet.
I am happy and grateful (hope to stay that way for a very long time :-) ).
