Mar 9, 2012 6:21 AM in response to whetty101by wyappy,While I don't have the black screen issue, my late 2008 MBP will not come out of sleep - comes up to logon screen, enter user & pw and the pinwheel will begin spinning and never have an active desktop come back. I had attempted an upgrade from SL that repeatedly crashed. Had to go in to store. Couldn't get it installed and eventually put in a new hard drive (coincidently 8 days out of Apple care) and installed again. This took, installed 2/28 firmware update. I think I have pushed the on/off button more in the last 2 weeks than I did the entire 3 years of SL. So now my timemachine has completed a backup in Lion so from what I understand, if I go back to SL, I will do so without my data? This is a machine as it came out of the box - nothing additional with the exception of an external drive for BU that is only connected at that point and a thumb drive. It would be great for an Apple solution.

Mar 12, 2012 5:13 AM in response to wyappyby Granite Apple,I can't find my original post on this thread, but after months after delaying bringing my mid-2010 MBP to an Apple Store, I finally made a genius bar appointment and brought my machine in on Friday to the store in Nashua, NH, US.
I mentioned this thread and the extended warranty for the mid-2010 MBP because of this issue, described my symptoms, and watched the genius bar tech run the tests on my machine right in front of me. My machine passed the tests, but the tech said that my symptoms suggested the logic board needed replacement. He checked to see if they had one in stock, set it aside for me, and then let me take my machine with me for the day so I could use it for work.
I dropped it back off at the Apple store Saturday morning, and got a call saying it was ready Sunday morning.
Can't say enough about how helpful and responsive this tech was. Looking forward to picking up machine.

Mar 12, 2012 8:19 PM in response to wyappyby wyappy,Thank you to Rex & Darren @ the Flatirons Genius Bar - my issue appears to be resolved. I had a very corrupt and large (4.36gb) sleepimage file!

Mar 12, 2012 8:59 PM in response to whetty101by niknok110974,there are things in this world that are not meant to be. like in the case of this Lion thingy. Why worry about this BSOD. it is not the end of the world. Revert back to the old OS, at least that's what i did and never had any single BSOD ever since.
for all the folks out there having the same issue.
let it go.
just learn from this experience and never again buy another "mansanas" products...

Mar 14, 2012 3:31 AM in response to wyappyby Airdoctor80,Dont understand, what they did on your mac?

Mar 14, 2012 10:15 AM in response to Airdoctor80by wyappy,AD80, I am not near my MBP at this time so can't tell you where the file is located, but they deleted it then emptied the trash. It now goes to sleep & wakes as it should. I guess with a 4.3gb sleep file to work thru in order to wake, it wouldn't be as quick as one would be accustomed.

Mar 14, 2012 3:53 PM in response to whetty101by RoFlmaTiC,Hi all,
I thought I would add my experiences with this issue.
I have a 2010 15inch MBP with the 330m nvidia graphics card.
I predominantly use the bootcamp volume for my games and the macintosh HD volume for uni. This issue started occurring in windows quite frequently when I updated my NVIDIA drivers from the bootcamp drivers (though it had previously occured with the bootcamp drivers, which is why I looked at updating the drivers in the first place).
Given that the black screens were only occuring in windows, I figured this was karma for installing windows on a mac. For this reason I never reported the issue to Apple, until after my 1 year warranty lapsed. However, I started noticing this issue in OSX (albeit less frequently). I came across this thread, but that that time the technical support issue (TS4088) hadn't been documented. I followed the thread intemittently and upon reading that there was an acknowledged problem with the logicboard, I took my MBP into my local Apple store to get the tests run.
Long story short is that I received my MBP back last night, and I can confirm that the replacement board has resolved the issue. Even in windows, when I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers (295.xx) the installation completed fine, whereas previously I would always get the black screen halfway through the installation and have to reboot.
Cheers

Mar 16, 2012 4:29 AM in response to whetty101by Notomys,After months of stability, my MBP has started doing this again? ***!!!! The latest OS update seams to have caused it.
Now getting angry cause the last crash corrupted my itunes library (lucky I had a backup). Seriously my Microsoft Windows PC at work is starting to become more reliable.

Mar 16, 2012 4:28 PM in response to Notomysby pikzel,Same problem here, after the graphics update, Lion was stable (Windows 7 still had them, though) and no black screens at all, for months. Now they're back. I have lost my faith in Apple and I will NOT buy another Macbook ever again. I understand there are occasional bugs and defects, but this is a recurring problem and Apple fail to treat their customers with respect.

Mar 17, 2012 3:10 PM in response to pikzelby nevillev,Ditto!! :-(
This is very disappointing. What has changed to cause this to happen again now, after a number of months?

Mar 18, 2012 12:19 PM in response to nevillevby Airdoctor80,I brought my mbp 15 "mid 2010 the Apple Store in Rome and after 4 days I havereturned. They changed the logic board. They assured me that the problem should not occur. Even a member of the genius bar told me that mbp also his staff had this problem and that fixed the same way. Luckily I activated the apple care, otherwise I would have to pay 350 euros for the repair. Hopefully it's all over.
