Apr 5, 2012 12:25 AM in response to Mesoonerby Shawn Ulibarri,This looks like it is an understood and known issue. There is a narrow range of 2010 MacBook Pros that are affected and can't be solved by just a software/firmware update. For laptops, made for a few months in mid-2010, Apple is standing behind their products and will fix them (even out of warranty), if they have the defective nVidia video processor.
I took mine in tonight, and they are fixing it for free.
That's why I have continued, and will continue to buy Apple products.

Apr 5, 2012 12:46 AM in response to Shawn Ulibarriby Bikul,Hello Shawn
this is not so obvious to me as Apple offers free fixes only for the 15 inch models, not for the 17 inch ones, which have the same series of components.
My MacBook Pro is out of guarantee now for 3 months and Apple wants me to pay 950,- Euro for changing the logicboard...

Apr 5, 2012 1:50 PM in response to Bikulby khaidottk,I'll have to take my computer in regarding this issue soon. I installed an SSD and removed the CD drive recently though, should I return the machine back to stock before taking it to Apple?

Apr 5, 2012 1:53 PM in response to Bikulby Shawn Ulibarri,Maybe it's because the motherboard is different?
Do you have the latest SW? 10.7.3

Apr 5, 2012 1:54 PM in response to Shawn Ulibarriby Shawn Ulibarri, khaidottk, I would return it to stock. User modifications typically complicate things.

Apr 5, 2012 2:29 PM in response to khaidottkby SwimBoy123,I would definitely return it to stock. The genius' will not touch it in its current state as removing the cd is not an authorised modification.

You are supposed to make an appointment at the Apple Store for the Genius Bar. You generally do this over the internet from your computer or phone.

Apr 8, 2012 1:13 PM in response to whetty101by blizzfire,Hi,
I already had this issue about mid 2011 and the Apple Authorized Repair Center in Vienna, Austria (McShark) replaced my logic board as they told me. After that I never had this graphics issue again UNTIL this year when I brought my MacBook Pro 15 Inch (Mid 2010) to their repair center to replace the hard drive as it started to throw errors when running checking applications. They replaced the hard drive and gave me back my machine.
After that the same graphics error (appearend black screen) occured again and again. It started when I brought the computer home and started it - a couple of minutes later I had the first black screen. Now to my question: did they insert an old logic board to my machine again or did the logic board just started to break again?
And: When they replace the logic board, do they replace it with the same version of it as before or do they replace it with some better version of it? Because if not I will certainly need to sell this kind of broken piece of computer. I am sorry I really enjoyed Apple products for a while now but this just seems to get too far.
Cheers, Patrick

Apr 9, 2012 1:46 AM in response to alars1by blizzfire,Hi alars1,
I am really starting to wonder if they really changed the logic board when they say they did.
Does anybody know if there is any way to find out if the logic board has been replaced?
When did they tell you that they wouldn't work on it further? Did they told you that while still in warranty or outside warranty?
Does anybody see an official statement somewhere that tells that they repair those broken Mid 2010 MacBook Pro's?
Cheers, Patrick
