Aug 9, 2011 12:52 AM in response to CollinMelby StephenHKing,C-mon everybody, this "Lion's higher demand for GPU muscle" thing is ********! Don't tell me, that some plain desktop dragging and some window animation added to Lion will have higher demand on GPU than a full 3D game (like HalfLife 2 for example). On SL I used lots of really-GPU-heavy software and I never had this issue, and believe me, those softwares really made use of GPU power and I never had a crash. On Lion I got a crash with Mail or Safari. Let's be serious and think about it for a moment. This thing is a Lion OS (software/driver) bug, and Apple has to fix this asap.

Aug 9, 2011 8:13 AM in response to Raytoniumby frankfromnorcross,I have also had this issue. Three crashes so far, two after I did Repair Permissions. They occur totally randomly, out of the blue, no program or explanation. Twice while using Lightroom 3 while posting photos to Flickr, once while checkig AOL mail. Bizarre. Also, can't wait till Apple or Epson updates the drivers for my 3 in one printer/scanner. Basic functions there, but no options. The drivers can wait, but this Black Screen of Death needs attention!
Like now?

Aug 9, 2011 9:33 AM in response to Mark Marinby Mark Marin,As a followup to my post. After the latest CUDA update I can not make my MacBook Pro hang, freeze, black screen, kernel panic or lose Internet connectivity. I've made it sleep, let it sleep on it's own, played Flash and other games, used Aperture and Photo Booth effects, viewed all my docs in preview (or whatever using the space bar is called) - rock solid for over 24 hours.
Perhaps we are all having similar experiences but there is more than one cause? For me updating the NVIDIA drivers (part of CUDA) seems to have fixed my issues or at least made it so rare that my computer's been usable for over 24 hours.

Aug 9, 2011 9:48 AM in response to Jonerenoby Jonereno,Just an update to my situation
- 15" MB, Mid-2010, i7, Lion
- No crashes under SL
- Multiple crashes per hour under Lion (Not black screen, but complete system freeze)
- Running gfxCardStatus and have system set to Discrete Only
No crashes since setting to Discrete only since noon on 8/4. That's five full days without a crash.

Aug 9, 2011 10:30 AM in response to Jonerenoby nickk2,Im so tired of these crashes.
I've crashed 4 times in the last hour and a half. The best part, is that I immediately began typing this message after rebooting from a crash, and I gray-screened again while typing it!

Aug 9, 2011 12:26 PM in response to whetty101by xsima78,Same things happening to me with mid 2010 MBP. Apple, please fix this, it's killing me and can't use my MacBook for work! Thanks.

Aug 9, 2011 1:03 PM in response to xsima78by SwimBoy123,In addition to the crashes has any else noticed that their MBP 2010 does not go to sleep properly. My HDD continues to spin once the lid is shut and the sleep indicator does not pulse and just burns at full brilliance. Could this be connected to the crashes?

Aug 9, 2011 1:17 PM in response to SwimBoy123by martinfromeugene,Bluetooth blues upon rebooting from [frequent] BSOD/nVidia panic; no trouble w/sleep.
Bluetooth goes completely wonky upon most of the reboots from these crashes. All Apple: keyboard, mighty mouse, and trackpad become non functional. Turning on/off the Bluetooth usually results in a kernel panic. ONLY method out of this has been a system management controller (SMC) reset. Resetting the PRAM has not fixed it every time it has happened.
Haven't noticed any problem with sleep in Lion, but seldom has it run long enough to go to sleep. It crashes if I'm using it with my external monitor, always, no matter which setting / driver / software is installed. From a fresh install it will crash. With the newest nVidia CUDA update it will crash. ONLY when useing the MBP as a laptop AND keeping the graphics set to integrated, will it run for a few hours. Opened an Applecare ticket and the system report generated for the engineers is working it's way through the system.
No love for Lion yet.

Aug 9, 2011 1:44 PM in response to whetty101by orsa47,RE: "gfxCardStatus to force integrated only": So far after installing gfxCardStatus, I have not had another crash. One caveat, I cannot seem to keep gfxCardStatus in integrated mode. It keeps switching to discrete. But at least my computer is not crashing. I have been using two days now. Before gfxCardStatus, it was crashing 3 times a day. What a PITA!! We are all now officially beta testers of Lion.... Barry

Aug 9, 2011 1:46 PM in response to whetty101by orsa47,I also note the developer of gfxCardStatus has developed this for free. It this is a fix, we should send him some $$ and maybe he will do an update to software. That assumes of course that dollars are still worth more than paper in the coming days, given this economy

Aug 9, 2011 3:19 PM in response to SwimBoy123by xsima78,I had this issue with MBP not goin to sleep and running as well. But I might have experienced that on Snow Leopard too but it is absolutelly happening with Lion. I close to lid but it keeps on running, when I'm sharing a Ethernet connection over WiFi I can still see the network out there. I didn't find any settings where I can influence or check what happens when the lid is closed..

Aug 9, 2011 4:24 PM in response to whetty101by 1000kernelpanics,This is complete ********. I never experienced this problem on Snow Leopard, and it only happening with Lion. At first it would only happen when I booted up, and would have to reboot about 7 times to use my macbook pro. Now, it seems to be happening every 20 minutes.
I have the mid 2010 macbook pro i7 with 8gb of ram and SSD.
I tried all the solutions in this thread and nothing has worked. Apple needs to pay attention to this thread so I will continuously bump this thread until they see it or release a statement saying a fix is being deployed soon. This has rendered my macbook pro USELESS.
WITH ALL THAT MONEY YOU HAVE HIRE A BUNCH OF DEVELOPERS TO LOOK INTO AND FIX THE ******* ISSUE! IM TIRED OF THIS!!!!!!!

Aug 9, 2011 4:26 PM in response to 1000kernelpanicsby YhnaMac,Well in that case, I would not hesitate a bit, backup your things with Time Machine if it is not done yet and reformat with Snow Leopard.
My iMac is affected too with the Lion's bugs and I'm considering to revert to Snow Leopard too while the support team is investigating the bugs.
In my case, I took an image backup of my existing Snow Leopard with Carbon Copy before upgrading. So reverting is not going to be a big problem though.
Just my 2cents
