Same issue Here!!! My Solution; Downgrade to Snow Leopard, but isnt all. i began  to experience problems with all my games (borderlans, Starcraft 2, Bioshock) annoying lag all the time, just an awful performance for a $2400US macbook pro6,2 intel core i7 4gb Ram. I reset the Nvram, several times by the way and this did the trick no more lag so i restar the system. Dont know why, but my file system suddenly crash, so i've no choice, i Reinstall Snow Leopard OS once again :/. After all this headache, my macbook pro has no problems of any kind (at this moment), i waiting for an stable OS 10.7.2 to upgrade. Ooo and please, Excuse my English.

Temporary fix for users with sleep managment related B(lack)SOD could be turning off sleep managment. So far it has worked for me.

I've done the same thing (turn off sleep) and have noticed no more problems with Lion in any way. Using multiple graphic's programs together, and Chrome, and a game produced no black screens...it is only the waking from sleep that produces the black screen for me. On the other hand, the sleep function is one that I find really useful. FYI, there are also freezes in the new 2011 15" and 17" MacBook Pros, and they have a site, which is twice as long as this one...   https://discussions.apple.com/message/13178963#13178963

There are problems and there are issues, and by comparison, mine seem slight, since I am still able to get full funcitonality out of my laptop. I'm still in warranty, so I will probably send it in for a check. If they can't find anythng wrong, I will probably go back to carefree Snow Leopard...gald I made a clone.

    Update:

Apple replaced my MBP 15" with a new machine.

We have a total of 3 MBPs in the household.

15" MBP 2010 Model > had issues and was replaced by Apple

17" MBP 2010 Model > same 330 Nvidia chipset but did a super duper clone and then upgraded to lion on the external drive.  Had no problems and none of the same issues as with the 15".  Did an upgrade on the internal Hard drive and no issues at all.

    13" MBP 2011 Thunderbolt > no problems

So in the end it does appear to be hardware related and only affects some of the 2010 models with the Nvidia 330 gpu.

I have had the same problem, I brought my MBP to the Apple Store and they did a reinstall of Lion. They told me that if this doesn't fix it they will have to send it out to check. Unfourtantly I wasn't able to send it out that day, due to me needing my laptop, but the problem still persists for me. It's less frequent now but it's still there.

I have a 13inch MacBook Pro mid 2009 model 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8 GB RAM, my graphics card is

    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

How is them installing Lion vs you installing Lion going to be any more effective?

This whole thing stinks and am going to try to just have them replace the MB while I wait at the SF store. Wish they (Apple) would acknowledge the issue exists and send out an official statement and issue plans to the Apple stores for immediate part replacements of affected MacBooks.

Serious Apple, I love your stuff but this is the worst "showing" of ignorance I've ever seen.

No I idea, I think it's just procedure. Before they decided to do a reinstall they tested my HD and did a S.M.A.R.T test and everything came up fine.

I wish Apple would acknowledge the problem as well, it probably has something to do with the graphic switching, but getting 19 kernel panics in 2 days is nothing to ignore. The local Apple store I go to (Frisco, TX) was really helpful but I don't think they knew anything about the problem. I know it has something to do with the graphics card, I'm tempted to buy Apple Care just so they'll replace it without a hassle.

But this is similar to the iPhone 4 problems that they did not acknowledge until it got enough steam under it.

Hi Tess, that link was posted several pages ago. Just so you know that suggested fix they provide did not work for many people. I also tried on a fresh install and there ARE NO "windowserver" files!

Thanks for the update...fix didn't work for me either. Didn't see the link posted before...think I'm looking at the computer screen too long.

Just adding my trouble ticket here (and have done so directly with Apple too).

Our MacBook Pro 17" (2.6 GHz) from early 2008 has gone black screen and cannot wake up. We were in the middle of downgrading to Snow Leopard after numerous Lion issues when the screen went black. Nothing we have tried will let us eject the DVD or get any access to the computer. We've tried rebooting from the DVD, starting up in target disk drive, attaching an external monitor, restarting holding down various keys, and also reset the SMC.

So with no access, it is impossible to effect any of the recommended changes. AppleCare ended about 4 months ago. :-( No apple store where I live though I will try to take it to a reseller in hopes of getting my computer back!

Can someone please tell what the performace is like running on the integrated card?

Is the Mission Control and Launchpad animations fluid, or choppy?

I'm asking because on Snow Leopard my 2010 15" MBP is a little choppy using Expose and Spaces.

    Thanks.

I am using the gFX fix and running the integrated option and the graphics from destop to lauchpad and mission control seem fine no problem but the transition from normal app to full screen is definately choppy.

Also in response to someones earlier post the the nvidia graphics drivers for the GT330M are unable to be installed as they are "unsupported".

I am really hoping Apple sort this out... soon.  I am begining to get embarassed when my Mac Book Pro (15in 2010 -2.4GHz i5) shuts down in front of people.  I feel like I should be punching buttons on on of those black plastic pc thingies.

Hoping and praying that Apple come through

After soon a month of problems and more than enough time for Apple to solve the problem I figured I would call them to ask what I could do - especially after the MBP blacking out several times in less than an hour in front of hundreds of people. Naturally the support person on the phone knew nothing about the issue and had not heard about anyone else having that problem, and he could not find any information internally in Apple about that problem. I really hope the bug report I sent, that currently is labeled as "Duplicate", isn't just lost in space.

On the other hand I guess Apple is losing a couple of customers every time my computer blacks out in front of the people here at the university, so in that sense it's not just me it's hurting and should be incentive enough for Apple to want to fix.

Got a mid-2010 15" MBP here... seeing the same issue here. Using gfxCardStatus to keep it on the Intel graphics chip. Don't generally stress the video on this box, but will, most likely, call in to report it. Hard to fathom that Apple would release Lion knowing this problem existed. Hard to fathom they didn't know it existed. All around: hard to fathom.
