Aug 16, 2011 4:41 PM in response to whetty101by Evan Lecklider,I updated and had a crash not too long after. PhotoBooth didn't do it, it was iPhoto that finally crashed mine after about an hour on dynamic switching. I'm taking mine to the local Apple Store to get it fixed tonight. It was well be software but this is just getting ridiculous.
Best of luck everyone.

Aug 16, 2011 5:11 PM in response to whetty101by SETO_XIII,Same problem!
Whenever my MacBookPro (3,1 , Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHZ) goes to sleep, it crashes!
It happens when I close lid, it goes to sleep, and can't re-open it without pressing the power button to force it to shutdown! If i don't and if it goes to sleep it overheat!! with possibility of MB failures!! So i put my warning on this uncontrolled phenomenom!Fresh install plus software update (10.7.2) didn't work as well!
Please, repair this malfunction! -

Aug 16, 2011 6:39 PM in response to Tess888by Psytrix,Called apple support, after todays update was a fail. Not much they can do - Tech advisor told me this forum could be a lot of speculation and is uncomfirmed. Sigh.. I cant be bothered with this anymore - Id rather have a new pc then an unusable mac.
Head in to apple tomorrow - I wonder how many times they will ask me to install Lion again..?
This really *****..

Aug 16, 2011 6:47 PM in response to Psytrixby wired00,Hi Psytrix, not sure if you read the suggestion already but save yourself some hassle/headaches, and go spend $50 or whatever on one of those mini external USB driven HDD's. Install lion fresh on it run the updates and don't install anything else. Have that ready when you go into apple.
If you don't know already just boot into the recovery(?) mode by restarting with command + R held down. It will bring up a menu allowing installation of lion. It will unfortunatetely re-download all 3.5gig+ of lion but atleast will have it installed on the HDD ready to cut to the cr@p with apple and prevent having to install yet another install.

Aug 16, 2011 9:23 PM in response to whetty101by ZodiacfreaK,Wellllll I'm here with a 2010 mbp 2.66 i7 NVIDIA 330M GT and had this issue starting way back on 10.6.something and then updated to lion which made things a billion times worse. Took it into the apple store, they saw that all the kernal panics referenced the nvidia chip before crashing. So they replaced the nvidia and logic board. Now I have it back and HAVE NOT updated to 10.7.1 yet. But mine hasn't crashed for at least 1 month I would say now with very extensive usage. Well all of a sudden tonight the screen went black and the audio started looping the past two seconds. So I'm hoping it is either an incredibly rare incedent or my issue is coming back. SO I guess I'll see over the next few days. But I have news for apple, I'm not going in for another logic board replacement so it's either problem fixed now or I'm going to be requesting a laptop that is in working condition.

Aug 16, 2011 9:33 PM in response to whetty101by mike briseno,Bad News
I had the same problems as everybody else on this thread.
I also tried, with little success, most of the suggested interim remedies.
Good News
I followed the advice of some and took it back to apple.
After a logic board replacement, I seem to have a working laptop again.
*Thanks to all for posting here.*
Directly, indirectly and sometimes just in the spirit of commiseration you all helped me
get through this.
Hopefully my post does the same for you,
(read: take your laptop in, reproduce the problem @ the genius bar.
don't wait for a magical software update that nobody is promising)

(FWIW, this all happened before the 10.7.1 update)

Aug 16, 2011 9:38 PM in response to mike brisenoby ZodiacfreaK,Mike, I did the same thing you did, took it in and got the Nvidia/Logic Board replaced about a month ago and my mbp just crashed again in the same way. So either the issue is coming back or my issues was never fully resolved. I'm hoping it is just an extremely rare occurance, but you never really know . So, I'll try and keep you guys updated since I think I'm one of the first people that took their MBP's in and got the logic board replaced (about a month ago) with this issue.

Aug 16, 2011 9:48 PM in response to ZodiacfreaKby wired00,Did you double check the kernel panic? Is it indeed the dreaded nvidia related log or possibly another component or piece of software? As you know there are other ways to get a BSOD rather than just nvidia GPU.
Also other people have reported having their MB replaced 3 times before they were crash free -
Aug 16, 2011 9:52 PM in response to ZodiacfreaKby mike briseno,@ZodiacfreaK Uhhg! sorry to hear the logic board didn't help you.
FWIW, this latest replacement of my logic was the second this year.
(first time was a different issue)
Maybe there is just some batch that is bad?

Aug 16, 2011 9:55 PM in response to wired00by mike briseno,@wired00, I did double, triple check.
my black-screen was 100% due to the nvidea issue.
Maybe I just got lucky on this replacement of the board.
You're feedback in these posts is appreciated.
Thanks.
I just wanted to add my 2cents regarding what worked for me.

Aug 17, 2011 2:55 AM in response to whetty101by RADe8,Just wanted to weigh in that I have NEVER had the black screen crash UNTIL I updated to 10.7.1. Today I've had it twice so far (within about 20 minutes).
Never have I ever felt so bad about an upgrade of Mac OS as I do since this Lion debacle.
