Aug 17, 2011 2:35 PM in response to msimard8by wired00,What gets me is not that this problem has happened in the first place, things go wrong. What i don't like is that Apple as a company has ignored issues like this time and again.
Its the same with the iphone4 antena. They ignored and denied there was any issue till the very last minute > then people were told your holding it wrong > then finally admitted to a software problem with the signal strength. When really it was a design flaw.
I hate that there hasn't even been a memo sent to staff telling of the issue, or maybe there HAS but its a memo instructing geniuses to deny any knowledge? There are a bunch people in this thread taking their machine to the NY store and then were told they have not heard of the issue??
Reality Distortion field in full effect? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality_distortion_field) Also, why are Apple staff STILL instructing people to 'reinstall' Lion? It does nothing but waste both our time.
I've completely lost faith in Apple supposed great hardware and reliability. Have you seen the number of people with issues using the latest model machines with ATI GPU? There's another thread on here with many more pages of posts as this one. Its another freezing issue but instead of a BSOD the screen simply freezes and stops responding. Nice.
Here's another thread showing instability of latest model macbooks:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2768351?start=1575&tstart=0
Note: this is NOT the same issue we are experiencing, they are freezing and can only move the mouse. All programs become unresponsive and requires a hard reboot. So even ditching Nvidia has not helped.

Aug 17, 2011 4:30 PM in response to wired00by Tess888,wired00, I share your angst in this whole matter, but believe it or not, I may be the only one that a Lion re-install worked for...I know this is not a solution for most people, but I reinstalled Lion and all issues are gone (for now) If they return, I will update this post, but it's nice to have a computer working the way it's supposed to after the aggravation of the past couple of weeks.

Aug 17, 2011 4:38 PM in response to Tess888by wired00,Hi Tess, Yep i saw your previous post on that. Is it possible that you were actually experiencing a seperate Kernel panic, in the end, to the Nvidia one? Possibly something relating to your mouse? If that was the case re-installing lion has fixed it for you. For me though, installing a fresh copy of Lion has done nothing to fix the problem and I'm booked for a new MB on friday. Fingers crossed I get a fully working MB/GPU and not another dud

Aug 17, 2011 4:52 PM in response to whetty101by Linda.h,I wanted to give out an update that while before my computer would go into a kernel panic while streaming movies off of Netflix or watching a movie on VLC, today it went into a kenrel panic while just on Safari. I have had 3 today. The Lion update did not help the problem at all.
I'm taking my mid 2009 MBP back to the Genius bar soon, they said they would send it out to check on the hardware. I might have them recommend checking the motherboard since that seems to be the issue.

Aug 17, 2011 8:17 PM in response to wired00by Tess888,Hi Wired...thanks for shedding some light on what might have happened. When a week passes without incident, I'll report on what the status of my computer is...from the very beginning, however, I had a lot of issues with permissions on my upgraded mackbook pro...it became so bad that I couldn't even throw out the garbage without my admin passwork. With the help of a tech, I used time machine to get out ot his mess. I never connected this incident with any of the other problems I was having in Lion, namely the BSOD coming out of sleep, disappearing magic mouse, etc. When I re-iinstalled Lion and everything seemed to work, I asked a service tech about all of this.. he said that messed up permissions can cause all of these problems and worse and that a re-install of Lion would fix all of this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for now, but I'm still waiting before I say this is a permanent fix. I just posted in the very rare case that it could help someone else. Good luck on Friday, and maybe this time wil be the charm!

Aug 17, 2011 8:50 PM in response to Psytrixby wired00,wow. What led to them giving you a new machine? did you have a fresh lion install and showed the symptoms at genius bar? or did you leave it with them for a while etc? I'm tempted to take mine to the same store instead of the george street one O.O

Aug 17, 2011 9:26 PM in response to wired00by Psytrix,I didint have to do much - just explained it as it was, said I'd tried everything to no avail - I then replicated the issue and we dicussed replacing the logic board - then he just came back and said he'd just give me a new MacBook! Can't complain with that! :D has defiantly restored my faith in apple.

Aug 17, 2011 11:05 PM in response to Psytrixby Mondo Generator,Well, you guys are lucky to actually have a real Applestore. I live in Europe and we only have resellers. They do not replace anything. They just tell you to reinstall and bugger off.
That is, until Apple acknowledges the problem. No 10.7 for me then:(.
