Same here, but with a 2010 (mid) Mac Pro. Updated to Lion 2 weeks ago without any issues. Suddenly today every few minutes BSOD. The machine runs nearly one year without any issues (SL).

There is one thing that changed today: we have ~38 degree (and i have no air conditioning at home), in the last weeks we had a very bad summer with temperatures around 20 degree.

Maybe there is no relation to temperatures, its just a thought...

    Classic!

So today I pick up my 2010MBP from the 5th Ave Apple Store.  I brought it in last week and even though I insisted that this is an issue with the logic board, they said that since it seemed OK in Safe Mode it must be a software issue.

So they wiped the hard drive and reinstalled Lion.  When they called and told me to pick it up they said that they had stressed tested it for 30 mins of extreme conditions and didn't find a problem.

I was obviously thrilled to hear that, but figured I'd give it a try before I left.  I opened Photobooth, clicked on Effects and then moved to the second tab, and guess what ...

    ... Black screen of death.

Needless to say they checked it back in and I think they are now going to swap out the logic board.  We will see.

What amazes me about this is not what the guys at the store do, because it is perfectly logical to assume that it is a software issue if they hadn't heard anything about this.  The amazing part to me is that even now, even at the busiest Apple Store on the planet, they still haven't been briefed on this well known and well covered issue.

They have been briefed on it and told to stay tight lipped on the situation.  I played hardball with them and ended up with a new computer.  Lion runs fine on the new early 2011 they gave me.  The solution is to replace the machines like they did for me. RECALL!  Not like apple can't afford a recall.  Am I the only one anyone knows of that had their compuer replaced?

How did you go about getting them to replace your computer?? I need advice, having problems like everyone else. Thanks

After the latest update (approx August 15) I don't get any notification that Lion crash info is even being sent to Apple.  I left my MacBook Pro on for a few minutes and when I came back opening the file menu in Mail opened up an image of the mail screen... so weird.  Nothing worked.  I had to power down using the power button...but no notification crash info was sent.

Reading all the disgust with this obvious slight from Apple, I am beginning to feel Jeffersonian about Apple.

I present at a homeland security conference next wek.  Given my computers failure rate the probability of BSOD is 100% during the 45 minute pitch.  I am going to work this into my presentation and rant about Apple.

The leadership is asleep at the switch.  Ten years ago, Apple would have not been so careless to release an Alpha OS as a final for users and then totally ignore our complaints.

I am in a hurt box.  At work, I have touted Apple for decades.  Now, they are laughing at me!

Yo Apple... *** over?  Are you going to fix this or are you more like Microsoft now?

Yep... I am ******.  Sorry.  Barry

I am in a similar situation, even with no conscious intentions. My stuff is in my MacBook. Until now people have been joking with me if I accidentaly hit a corner and the Desktop appears on a beamer. A kernel panic loop would be unhilarious...

Okay it's decided, if there is no recall or software update before october, I will definitively quit Apple products.

    It is no longuer reliable.

Well, I moved on even before.

Was planning to buy a macbook air with the release of Lion; I DID NOT bought a netbook (window7) instead

Was planning to update to lion my two macbook pro december 2008 + march 2010; I DID NOT (due to this thread)

Next step (I am giving a couple of more week chance) then will put for sale the macbook pros.

I am in Europe and there is not many apple store here. If I have a problem updating sure nobody will help without lots of money (euros).

My first mac apple product was dec. 2008 and probably I was too late to switch but i am in time to go back.

It is a pity cos I liked.

Yep. I am also livinig in Europe, and I have some scientific speaches to give during september... guess what? Due to the low reliability of my MBP, this weekend I had to buy a new notebook... and in ten years, this is the first non-apple notebook that I buy... and I am back to Slack.

Apple should learn that it takes years to build a relationship based on reliability and confidence, but when you take some bad choices, it takes only some seconds to destroy it.

You see, up to now there is still no official statement whatsoever about this problem – or at lest I am not aware of any.

Honestly, I am not sure I trust my work to another Apple notebook... in the next couple of years, at least. Nonetheless I still have some hope they will fix this issue, so I can use my 2010 MacBrick Pro – which was rather expensive, by the way – to listen some music (the optical connection is nice), play videos, organize my photos, decorate my living room, but hardly to do real work.

    Update:

Good news (apparently only for me?).

Since I've installed the latest update 10.7.1 (five days ago) my MBP 15" mid 2010 has been running flawless with no more Black screens.

Very stable now, as well as noticeably fast. I only hope this is going to last.

    @Tatoz70 apparently just for you....

My problems stay... Black screens over and over again.

A very reliable way to end with a black screen on my Macbook Pro mid 2010 (i7 2,66Ghz / 4GB Ram / Lion 10.7.1) is to open PDF-files via "quickview" while the NVIDIA graphics card is selected.....

    Here´s a video i made have a look:

The upgrade to Lion was not an easy one for me either---but after many years of MS aggravation, I do not have brand loyalty to Apple or anyone else. The computer just has to work. Before I upgraded to the new OS, I made a Snow Leopard clone just to be sure, Yes, I've had the dreaded BSOD, and lots of other issues, but everything seems to be working now...more or less. I have the same MacBookPro 15" 17, 2.66GZ like many on this forum. When we purchased our computers, they did come with SL install disks...in order to become productive, why don't you just install Snow Leopard again...sure, it's a lot of work, but the pain is gone in one day. Apple still supports this OS, so you won't be missing out on anything, In my case, Adobe Air and an antique printer caused much of the difficulty. I do have to admit, however, that quite a few colleagues who were set to buy a new MBP for the fall semester are now holding off until this mess gets straightened out. And...Apple must have a lot of new techs at Apple care, because the level of expertise is really low lately...I don't know much, but I had the feeling that I knew more than they did when I was on the phone with some of the first level support...now this should not be happening!
