Hi Tess888, I actually didn't write down MB & GPU details from system profile so I'm not sure on the exact numbers previously there. Looking at it now... it's still NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M + 512MB VRAM etc so its the same configuration as before. Definitely not running AMD or Intel for the "discrete" chip or anything

Yep thats a possibility that there's simply an inherent issue with *all* hardware and some develop a problem with age others have it right from the start? I remember mine originally started crashing with BSOD after about 6-8 months of use under SL. I can only hope this is not the case though and this MB continues to run. Well, atleast I have apple care till late 2013...

I have just one question. The usual configuration for the MBP 1%" i7 is 388 MB of integrated Intel graphics and 512 MB of NVidia descrete graphics, plus whatever amount of Ram you opted for .. 4 or 8 MB. When you look in the---About this Mac / More information / System Report area, do you see the exact same configuration that you saw before your MB replacement regarding the Intel graphics and the NVidia graphics? Did Apple perhaps change one of these components for AMD or a different Intel configuration? If everything is the same as before, it is possilbe that somewhere down the line....in a month or two of heavy usage that the same problem will reappear. While I do believe that there are faulty MB, I don't believe that they are all faulty. From day one I've said that this is a firmware / driver issue and that MB replacements are just buying Apple some time to fix this issue.  Thanks...

Update on my side. I went for the second time to my apple store. They can't fix the issue. They did send my MBP 2010 to get the mother board replaced, however as they did not find anything wrong with it Apple decided not to replace it. They also know about the issue from reading this forum and basically think it is a Lion software issue that will eventually be fixed by an update to come. They suggested that I would call apple care another time and ask them to escalate this issue to engineering. So no replacement of logic board or macbook pro. Be patient and if you can't leave with the crashes, reinstall snow leopard and live with it. That is the position of the Apple store in Danbury CT. The guys were all nice and know about the issue now but can't help. I am quite astonished however that they have no way of raising this issue and escalate it to engineering ?? Weird to me. I did tell them that I was astonished about it and that there would be no bulletin mentionning anything about the BSOD.
Each time I go to Photobooth, full screen, page 2, Bingo it crashes. I 'll be patient I guess as my MBP is still under warranty, however I hope thay come with some kind of fixes soon for all the owners of MBP 2010 i7 with the NVidia GT330m

So got my logical board replaced today, first few hours stable on Lion. Will go trough my daily workflow tommorw with external monitor pluged in see what gives.

So far so good, but will keep fan speed up and run this rig bit cooler. Although I have extended warranty for another two years,Id like to avoid need for repairs if i can help it.

So chaps will report back if all is solid in day or two, but given what i seen on this post this should do the trick.

Oh by the way little birdie whispered that 10.7.2 is on its way ..

I have mine booked in to next week at Chatswood, AU to replace logic board. I want to get some unique hardware detail of it to see if there was a part change (like a v2 of the nvidia chip).

I'm goign to push very hard that if this does not fix it I want a replacement 2011 laptop. I can't be without it for work, and while this ***** I will never buy a Windows PC.

I was working in a data centre last night and had two BSOD's within 30min of each other but nothing yesterday at all. It's unpredictable

MBP 15" mid 2010 2.66 MHz Corei7 8 GB works now after logic board replacement.

    History:

First BSOD in Feb. After that constantly files repaired by fsck. More and more frequent problems wiht external projector. BSOD with external projector under Snow Leopard became frequent in June.

I installed Lion, and **** broke loose. Once, unrepeatably, Apple DeLuxe test set set said that "Disk Hardware Failed". Disk changed. No help. BSOD while migrating users after clean Lion install.

Predictable BSOD when starting Path Finder after boot. (For some reason needs external graphics processor). All boot resets tried out.

Memory changed. I demonstrated BSOD at the service, so they took it back and changed the logic board. I have no logs, but the service said that the logic board is the same model, not newer.

The disk was untouched, so at least the previous predictable BSOD has gone.

After MB replacement mine has been running all day with no running gfxCardStatus and using an external monitor. All working well. I used registered retailer Next Byte on Clarence street in Sydney. I recommend them as you can actually speak with the technician working on the machine.

btw, I'll be re-installing gfxCardStatus if I last a week of no crashes. I find forcing integrated GPU is great to use on battery to vastly improve battery life when just surfing web, email etc.

After all my moaning and complaining I'm happy that it seems ok However I'm still quite unhappy with the way Apple is handling issues such as this... No announcements of whether they know the problem exists, very inconsistant support etc. Some people are receiving brand new 2011 machines, some receive MB replacements and some told to wait till a driver update?

It is the answer I got during my last trip at the apple store:

Your MBP has a software issue (they would not call it a driver issue). Your MBP has been sent to Apple Repair center and they decided not to replace the logic board as they could not find anything wrong with it. (the genius before sending it had: Replace logic board on the worksheet).  Wait for a patch to come and run Snow Leopard if you can't leave with BSOB. As your MBP is still under warranty, if there is no fix within the next few months !!! come back to see us....

I went to the Apple Store today, they told me that I have to wait to a Lion update to fix the problem.

has anyone tried the latest 10.7.2 yet? (Build 11C43)

The new OS X Lion 10.7.2 build continues to list no known issues and asks developers to focus their testing on AirPort, AppKit, GraphicsDrivers, iCal, iChat, Mac App Store, Mail, Spotlight, and Time Machine.

May not be relevant but my 2009 MBP using external monitor a lot. A few weeks ago the external flashed off and on, then finally would not mirror. Took it to Apple store where it worked with an old VGA monitor they had there but not with an Apple Display. They replaced the logic board and now it works.

I then tried a friends 2010 MBP, who never used an external monitor and the same thing, it wouldn't work with an external... This may be defective boards in lots of MBP's. I'd check yours esp if under warranty. I had AppleCare so it didn't cost me the $435.59

10.7.2 will fix the issue. They are working on it, but it's more complicated than you would think.
