Same here... Not as soon as it opens but every minute mail crashes since lion update. Any suggestions?
Same here. Tried to delete mail accounts and restart the system as was suggested elsewhere... But that did NOT work... Please, help!
i noticed that i had one conversation that was really long (about 100). i fixed mine by erasing any long conversations
Same here. I had no issue during the upgrade and the configuration of my accounts, and now Mail crashes one minute after launch, even if I'm not looking at it!
Apparently I have a picture attached to an email that it doesn't like. I'll try removing it and long conversations as well, but it is quite surprising.
Ok... my mail folder was 11 GB ;-) It worked with that size on the leopard and snow leopard but by now it seems that lion can not manage that size.
I deleted almost the half of my emails, its now 6 GB and seems to work (no crash since 30 minutes ;-)
As I use my mac in the office its a pitty that I had to do that but by now it seems that this is the only way to solve the problem.
Remember to use the "delete finally" function (right mouse on the inbox)... otherwise the /library/mail folder becomes even bigger as before.
Good luck!
Same here. It was working nice since update last week. Today crashed twice in 30 minutes.
I do not think it is mail folder size... mine has 8 GB and worked well for almost a week.
Mail crashes constantly. PowerPoint and other programs have been acting up too, but Mail is the worst.
Mail crashes every minute. I use two POP accounts. No conversation. My mail folder is about, 3.3 Gb. I deleted pretty Good Privacy, but in vain.
The same sad story. Mail stays up for an average of one minute or a just a little more, then it crashes. I really hope 10.7.1 will fix this, along with the wifi issues as well.
Found simple solution elsewhere on this blog that worked for me (and others)...
1. Right click on Finder icon in the Dock
2. Choose "Go to Folder" in the popup menu
3. Type in ~Library
4. Open the Mail folder(s) until you find the V2 folder
5. As opposed to what was recommended, I deleted all files and folders inside the V2 folder
(After all, gmail and iMobile have my mail history and details on file anyway)
6. Restarted MacBook to be sure
7. Started Mail and added my iMobile and gmail accounts... From there the normal world presented itself!
Another more simpler solution that I did NOT test myself is...
1. Open Applications in a Finder window and scroll to Mail
2. Right click on Mail then go to "Get Info" in the popup window
3. Unlock the lock at the bottom of the window by clicking on it (it will ask you for your password)
4. Go to "Access" and change it from "custom" to "read and write"
5. Restart Mail and it should work
I have similar issue! My Mail crashed very often~ 2~3 times per day; sometimes only once per day.....
Same problem for me - noy joy on any method. When is apple going to address this with a patch - many people seem to be having this problem. My ical wont save new appointments either.
Same here. Has crashed 3 times in the last 2 hours. PLEASE RESOLVE, Apple!
My Mail in Lion keeps crashing everyday!!!
To slove this issue is a must for Apple! Pls do it ASAP
Lion is proving disappointing. The advice never to take the first offer of a new OS seems very sensible!
Apart from my iMac apperaing to slow down, Mail crashes and freezes the iMac completely when I try to send Mail with attachments of any reasonable size. I have to restart the iMac.
Also Adobe Photoshop Bridge CS4 is prone to crash so I suspect this is something to do with handling large images and movies. A bit of a problem since I'm a photographer.
