Can't control Lion macmini with ARD 3.5.1 client

Title says it,

I can't control my just with Lion upgraded Macmini with ARD 3.5.1 client. I have also upgraded to ARD 3.5 on my snow leopard macbook pro. Before the upgrade of ARD on my MBP I could control the macmini, now it doesn't even connect/see the Macmini (that was also before I upgraded the macmini client to 3.5.1 BTW)

Neither can I use VNC from my iPhone anymore. Before I could wake up the macmini even on WiFi when using the macbook pro or iPhone/iPad.

So it seems an issue with client 3.5.1 on teh Lion Macmini.

anyone else has this issue?

thx

I am having the exact same problem with Lion Server and ARD Client 3.5.1. ARD is the only way I can connect to my Mac Mini Server. I believe there is something up with ARD 3.5.1 Client and the Admin. The only way I could get around it was to revert to a previous ARD Client like 3.4 or 3.5. But now since both ARD and Screen Sharing are down I cant connect to the Machine. Can anyone help?

Lion/ARD users,

I am also having issues with ARD and Lion.

I have done my Lion upgrades remotely via ARD. The Lion upgrades do ok and after install reboot I get remote connection back up again. However after running software update, which downloads ARD Client 3.5.1 my Apple Remove Desktop is no longer able to connect to the machine.

I also cannot access machine via VNC but can access it via SSH.

So it appears to be a problem with VNC ...

Here is the error:

User uploaded file

So while ARD see the "fritz" client ok it cannot connect to it.

I have looked in Console log and there are no clues there about what is causing the problem.

I have install the ARD Admin 3.5 Update, so that does not help fix the problem.

I have 7 remote Mac I need to access to this is a signficant problem...

Cheers,

Zebity.

Apple Remote Desktop User,

the solution is pretty simple.

Do not install the ARD 3.5.1 Client Update.

ARD 3.5 Admin appears to work fine.

I now have five machines all working with 3.5 Admin ok.

1 machine with 3.5.1 not working

I am not going to accept any of the Software Updates to move to ARD 3.5.1 until there is a clear fix to the problem.

I even remove all the various plist file under /Library/Application Support/Apple/Remote Desktop (which was suggested in another thread to address the problem) and had to reenter original installation serial number, but my connection to 3.5.1 client still does not work.

I cannot even do VNC to this machine that is not working with ARD.

Cheers,

zebity

It also broke standard screen sharing. I was using screen sharing on my MBP (Lion) to upgrade my Mac MINI to lion and after both did the ARD client upgrade, screen sharing refuses to work. Have changed the settings on both, tried remote management vs screen sharing, tried VNC, no joy. Says it's connected, but the screen sharing button doesn't even come up anymore. File sharing, great. Screen Sharing, toast.

Hi Folks,

I was having the same issue and was banging my head against the wall.

The fix seems to be pretty simple, it looks like if you go to the sharing preference pane on the client machine, and then uncheck and check again the Remote Management option the screen control feature comes back to life.

I hope this helps, it seems to have solved the issue on 2 of my client machines so far.

ssh into the offending machine and type:

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -deactivate -configure -access -off

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -activate -configure -access -on -restart -agent -privs -all

voila. see here for more: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2370
