Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I've upgraded and installed Lion without any apparent difficulty. However, when I run software update now, it tells me that I have 3 updates, including the latest version of iTunes. When I try to do the upgrades, it goes through the process and 2/3 of the way through and then it stops and says that "an unknown error" occurred. I've restarted and tried again, but no luck...
Any ideas?

I have read elsewhere that selecting one download at a time will work.
Personally I'd wait for the Lion traffic jam to clear a bit.

I'm having the same issue. Mine's been running for about 30 minutes but stuck on 88mb of 173mb. i guess i'll wait for it to timeout.
I am having the same issue on my 2011 17" Mac Book Pro. I tried repairing permissions and downloading iTunes 10.4 directly from Apple.com, but they install fails in exactly the same way as on your machine. This is the first time I have ever had this issue, I hope it is cleared up soon.
Interesting... I just tried downloading them one at a time as Ashka suggested and all worked but the iTunes install. Clearly it's the iTunes that's the problem for me.
Same for me. itunes won't upgrade to 10.4 from 10.3.1.

The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. That is one I'm doing.
Different error message than I get. I simply get "unkown error" and iTunes can't be installed.

Does your iMac have more than one user account? I tried installing iTunes 10.4 from the account I usually use, but it would not work. However when I rebooted and used the "root account" not sure if that's the correct term, it's the account that my MBP defaults to after a restart..I was able to install iTunes without an issue. Not sure if this helps you, but it worked for me. All the other updates were done while logged into my regular account, including going from Snow Leopard to Lion. I was able to get the other post-Lion updates to install by unchecking iTunes.

Yes, I have more than one account, but only one administrator account, which is the one that I'm trying to use to install the upgrade. I had absolutely no trouble installing on my MBP 15" using the same methods and account as I'm trying to do with my iMac. I also got the other updates to install by excluding the iTunes update on the iMac, although even that had originally failed.

I am having the exact same problem.
Also, XCode is failing to install from the Mac App Store.
I have repaired disk permissions via Disk Utility.
I have rebooted several times and always into admin account.
I have tried to install only one (of three available) software update at a time.
I have over 250gb of disk space available.
No joy. Not evan a little bit. Bummer.

I had the iTunes install in software update fail after upgrading to Lion as well. I was getting a similar fail error from software update. I went to the web link and downloaded the installer and it worked. So, that avenue is worth a try. Now on to figure out the problem I'm having with the app store....
Just read that and i did software update so itunes 4 is there and it download and install without problem,when open itunes again it said updating your library and after that done.iTunes 10.4 install without pro.I check about and yes is itunes4 and it go full screen etc ..
You are right, I have 8 updates on my list i selected it all but iTunes, and it successfully installed. then i tried to update iTunes but still no success even when downloading the file it self from Apple.com. hope this will be solved soon.
