I run Tiger with Firefox 3.6.19 and RealPlayer 12.0.0 (RealPlayer SP for Mac OS X).
Nearly everytime I try to play an uploaded .mpg or .mpeg video, RealPlayer will hang
and I will be forced to restart. This is getting tiresome. Does anyone have a suggestion for
a fix?

Might have to search for the 10.4.x version.
I use VLC 0.9.10 (last Tiger build) for just about all video viewing. I also use NicePlayer.
This shouldn't be an issue with .mpg but it helps to have Perian codecs installed for fullest flexibility. Some install Flip4mac for playing FLV in Quicktime, but I just play them with VLC without Flip4Mac.
Note that some of this will require you download the file and play it outside the browser.
