In case I need to do repairs on my disk or reinstall the OS on my Mac?

I do have a question about burning the disk.

We downloaded Lion yesterday but have not installed. We had not seen this specific recommendation, but we knew we needed to copy/burn the Lion installation software to DVD first, because if we ran the installer first it would be deleted. So, we burned the "Install Mac OS Lion 10.7 App" from the Applications folder, to a DVD. We did NOT show package contents, open contents, and copy the actual InstallESD.dmg file, to burn IT to a DVD.

My question is... do you think that the "Install Mac OS Lion 10.7" App will run from a DVD and enable installing Lion from the DVD? Or should we make another DVD with just the InstallESD.dmg file?

Thanks in advance,

JScott

Use the Recovery HD. Reboot while holding CMD+R.

OR

// YOU MUST HAVE A LEGAL COPY OF MAC OS LION 10.7 FROM THE MAC APP STORE! //

To do a CLEAN install of Mac OS Lion you can also make your own Lion Install Disk.

BURNING A INSTALL DISK.

1. Locate the "Install Mac OS Lion 10.7" app (from your Applications or Download folder) and copy/drag to desktop.

2. Right-click and show package contents.

3. Open "Contents" folder > Shared Support.

4. Copy the "InstallESD.dmg" file to your Desktop and burn in to a DVD. Check (Tick) the "Verify Burn Data" option.

INSTALLING LION USING DISK.

Restart you Mac while holding the option (alt) key down and follow the installation process.
