Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion.  The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly.  Please give me some advise....

    Re. Moskovit and SleepWatcher 2.2

This line has picked up a blank space in compatibilit y:

    sudo cp ~/Desktop/sleepwatcher_2.2/config/de.bernhard-baehr.sleepwatcher-20compatibilit y.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons/de.bernhard-baehr.sleepwatcher.plist

Take care that other lines may have picked up blank spaces in odd places! I am unable to edit out the added blank space character.

All the lines starting sudo should be single, rather than wrapped, for Terminal.

    Apologies Dave

    Good news (hopefully):

Mac OS 10.7.2 (just released) may solve many of our wi-fi problems.  The release notes say this:

"Address an issue that may cause a delay in accessing the network after waking from sleep."

Post here whether the update solves your problems, please, so we can see how successful it is.

(Dhwalt: Thanks for your suggestions re solving this problem via Terminal.  I'm hoping that the update will solve my problems, but if it doesn't, perhaps I'll give your suggestions a try.)

Well Guys, this board has been VERY quiet after the 10.7.2 (11C74) release. Did it fix your bug or is Lupunus right and there is no bug—just a few hundred thousand messed up routers?

    Thank you Apple.

Now back to Snow Leopard performance for WiFi connection on wakeup from sleep. OK, only installed and ran the large Combo Update for 4 hours but so far no WiFi failures. Normal service has been resumed - we hope!

Next question, "Why can't I use iCloud"? - Coming to the UK soon says Apple.

In my case 10.7.2 doesn't solve the problem.

After wakeup the MacBook Air doesn't automatically connect with Wifi.

It only works if I disable bluetooth - still like in 10.7.1.

But I have to say I have installed 10.7.2 on the normal way.

I have not installed the combo update.

I am afraid that a Combo-Update can slow down the Air - like it was by installing 10.6.7.

I am not sure if I should install the combo-update instead of the "normal" update ???

    Ciao.

Io ho usato questo post presente a pagina 56 di questo thread da parte di Robygen ed ha funzionato.

si tratta di un work-aroud, ma per il momento (modifica fatta un paio di settimane fa) funziona.

    ==========================

Here is a guide (in italian...but I think you can easily translate it)

    http://miaplacidusedaltriracconti.blogspot.com/2011/08/problemi-wifi-con-os-x-li on-la.html

It's similar to the guide posted by Jester. Kext utility makes the backup of lion's 80211 kext by itself.

I know this is not THE solution.

    But it's A solution.

    ==========================

my firmware version: Atheros 9380 4.0.58.4-P2P (Lion 10.7.2)

I followed the instructions but after reboot there was no wi-fi functionality at all: the OS wouldn't find any wi-fi card.

So I reinstalled the backup 10.7.2 kext file, reboot and everything was back to normal (which means I'm still unable to get a stable connection).

Is there a reason why replacing the 10.7.2 kext file with the 10.6.4 one doesen't work for me? It' so strange. After reboot, it's like the OS doesn't see any wifi hardware installed...

Should I try using other kext file instead of the 10.6.4 one? Maybe with 10.6.5 or 10.6.6 it'll work...

I remember the first time I boot my brand new imac everything was working fine. but after upgrading to a newer version of snow leopard things just kinda went south. Then Lion just made things worse...

    Ciao, Roberto.

    Buona giornata!

    Hello, Robert.
I waited cautiously to 10.7.2 and after downloading it, the problem remains: the wi-fi does not work, you disconnect for no apparent reason on my iMac as it continues to work well on my Mac Book ...do not be demoralized ... I know what to do .... it annoys me greatly Maccanico .. maybe we thought we would avoid the problems of the PC ... but ... no!
A 'point I'm thinking to postpone the purchase of the iPhone 4s .... with what costs / cost, why should I bother to risk it?
Obviously, these 70 routes, and the Apple support pages communities, to no avail .... if no onecares about Apple!
    Good day!

For those who are having problems rejoining after waking from sleep:

Open Console.app in /Applications/Utilities. Do you see something similar to this line?:

configd: subnet_route: write routing socket failed, Network is unreachable

    Hi Ryyjama.

    Really I'm bit disappointed.

Yesterday evening, I have installed 10.7.2 and... the wi-fi start to be dropped every 3-4 minutes.

so I connect my iMac with the cable to continue to work.

Now I have checked the firmware: it was updated by 10.7.2 to "Versione firmware:          Atheros 9280: 4.0.58.4-P2P"

So some minutes ago I have re-applied the work around on page 56.

Now it works and my firmware is back to "Versione firmware:          Atheros 9280: 2.1.9.8.1".

Ony one notes: I have performed the procedure two times: the first time the Firmware version was not changed. It could be my fault the first time or... another strange surprise of Lion.

So it seems to me that the problem is connected to a plenty of possible reasons and each case has a specific solution or... work around.

Still waiting for some signal from Apple

    BR

Just to add, more searching around lead me to another post on these forums, and it has worked for me - at least for the time being although will test it out more later. Thanks to Triddick for passing it on....... Just to reiterate, it was not a problem till 10.7.2, no idea why though.

"I read a link posted in this forum to remove all locations apart from your wifi, disable airport and then remove the following file:

    /Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

Then enable airport and connect to your wifi network.  This creates the file again but has no left over residue from snow leopard.

This has worked for me and it is working fine now, just wanted to let you know what worked for me and say thanks to the person who posted the link.

    Thanks"
