Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion.  The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly.  Please give me some advise....

I'm glad you said that. When you eliminate the obvious that which remains no matter how improbable must be the truth. Someone or some corporation is stealing your bandwith. I noticed alot of talk about cell phones. Well Blackberrys use there g4 or g3 what ever. Maybe there is a hole in Apples security. I just recently upgraded my firewall WEP to WPA04 almost instantly I've had trouble with major corp sites. VH1 for instances. It's almost like someone hacked my WEP and was using my information for self profit...but once I set up my new wall they could not hack, their sevice all of a sudden dropped off. I'm just learning this Apple I'm new here. Is netstat available on this book? If so where and how do I access it. My net works fine otherwise although I do get the beach ball of death every once in a while, curious?. If some provider is hitting apple, It's time for Apple to hit back.. Ohh yes the right technology can steal your bandwidth. These ....uckers are outside the box..They pick and choose. The solution...Apple should become the provider.. Thank you, Steve Jobs and my strongest respect from the bottom of my useless life, to his family who created this Genius. Apple you got work to do!...

    You are my hero!

My wi-fi finally works again....it's slower than in snow leopard or even in OS X 10.7.1 but, right now I really don't care, because it works!

Serious thank you to you and Jeff! You have both made my day!

Changing the MTU to 1492 didn't last long.. Today there were problems again. Now I tried this and it seems to work! Hope it will stay like this!

Ok been trying to fix my drop out problems for a week, when wifi is "looking for other networks" the connection would drop out, finally fixed it by stopping the router from broadcasting SSID, now although it still looks for other networks every 10 seconds or so, it does now not drop out, I can now play my online poker without any disconnections at all

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it didn’t fix my specific issue.  I have shut down Wi-Fi on PowerBook and connected to our home network through the Ethernet port and some old hardware from Netgear that allows one to use the wiring of the house as a cable plant.  Otherwise, every other device on Wi-Fi slows down to a crawl.  I’ll keep looking for other solutions.

    Thanks again.

I was really hopeful about this fix. Your problem seems to be very similar to mine though. Did you switch up anything else in the network settings that might have done the trick?

    Thanks!!

No other changes at all, but tried all the "fixes" suggested here and elsewhere, apparently the router, mine is the Belkin Vision N1, broadcasts the SSID every 10 seconds or so and it is this handshake with what Lion is seeing as a new network which is causing the drop outs. I'm thinking that some routers may constantly broadcaast their SSID so the problem isn't being seen by everyone, as it happens you are more secure with SSID broadcast off as this makes your network invisible, just remember your network name, as you'll need it when logging on your wireless devices as they wont fnd your wireless network automatically

Data point: My iMacs both continue to reconnect to Wi-Fi when awakened from sleep without intervention, after going through the resetting of permissions using the Recovery Mode, as suggested by Tendoformer.

    yep, same here.

I wonder... Can I return my iMac since it isn't working the way it's supposed to work?

Should I bring it back to the Apple store?

Plase forgive my ignorance, but how do I do that?

I'm so baffled by why this has been so difficult that I'm not even sure how to do that...!

BTW, this has not impacted my MacBook Pro. I has only hit my iMac, 27 inch.

    Thanks for your help!!!
