Oct 27, 2011 8:42 AM in response to agswin04by easywelsh,It's a big relief to have you MAC work but it looks like you are just masking the issue by setting a static IP.
Your Macbook was designed to work on the move. Not to be fixed to a static IP address...

Oct 27, 2011 8:56 AM in response to easywelshby morganfromashburn,When I called Apple Care they asked me for my device serial number so I entered the one associated with my iMac because I don't know where there would be one for the Lion download. Is there a serial number with the Lion app download and if so where would I find it?
I'm worried to go back to SL because 1, I'm not a computer expert and I'm worried about losing things and 2, all of my information is now connected to iCloud rather than MobileMe so will I lose all of that information as well?

Oct 27, 2011 12:13 PM in response to lrogersinlvby Uby,Hello All,
just to tell that at the end I went back to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Everything works perfectly again.
It's a pity because
1) I spent the money for Lion
2) I really liked the new Lion features
3) I had the impression that Lion would run faster on my iMac 27'
But today not being able to use Lion to access Internet properly with the flasgship iMac 2010 while the macbook pro 2007 placed just few centimeter close with Lion works perfectly is not accpetable especially after the 2nd update of the OS.
Let's not forget that the strenght of the Mac was using few hardware and software combinations.
If things don't work even in these limited test case... well something really went wrong.
Conclusion: very sad but .. back to Snow Leopard which .. simply works hoping that eventually the problem will be addressed.

Oct 27, 2011 12:18 PM in response to Ubyby JPSE,Okay, this might seem excessively stupid, but how do you go back to Snow Leopard after updating to Lion?
I cannot afford the time to reinstall every program, but I'll gladly give up all the new functions found in Lion if it means that I can actually use my iMac 27 in. again with wifi...

Oct 27, 2011 1:00 PM in response to lrogersinlvby Uby,Well unfortunately as far as I know you cannot easily go back to SL.
Hello JPSE,
What I did was basically save all the data, format the HD and create two partitions in the 1 Gigabyte HD in the Mac. I reinstalled from scratch Snow Leopard in the main partition and left a small one where I installed a basic Lion just to check what will be the behaviour in case some new findings could solve the problem or if eventually Apple will fix it in a new OS updating.
For your info I created a bootable USB with Lion on it in order to easily install it.
For Snow Leopard you can use the DVD which were together with your iMac, install it and then upgrade.
At the end it doesn't take really so long to reinstall the applications.. consider 2-3 hours... but of course depends on how many apps you had installled.
Usually I find more bothering to reinstall SL in itself...
Unfortunately I did the same mistake trusting Lion...
I understand that you need to be a little bit skilled to do all this stuff.... if you don't know how to do my suggestion is to look for the instruction in Internet... you can really find step by step instructions.

Oct 27, 2011 1:24 PM in response to lrogersinlvby morganfromashburn, the last OS X I have is Leopard. I fear it would be detrimental to go that far back. Thoughts?

Oct 27, 2011 1:53 PM in response to lrogersinlvby morganfromashburn,Does anyone know how to create backup disks of applications that have been purchased through the new app store? I purchased the new iPhoto and don't want to have to repurchase it once I downgrade to Snow Leopard

Oct 29, 2011 6:00 PM in response to lrogersinlvby fudgebrown,So far this has solved my wifi connection issue: I used iStumbler to see all the wifi channels being used by networks in my neighborhood. Several were channel 6 and 11 and others. I changed it to 4 since noone was using that specific channel. No idea why, but my wifi has stayed connected since lunch time, which is the longest so far.

If possible use one of the overlapping free channels or switch to 5GHz if your Router support that.

Oct 30, 2011 4:28 AM in response to lupunusby robbertvdd,Are there any people experiencing dropping Wi-Fi connection when using 5 GHz or is this problem completely non-existent on 5 GHz?

Oct 31, 2011 1:11 AM in response to lrogersinlvby Markus Oliver,Well, all this is what I wanted to avoid as I changed from Windows zu Mac. How dissappointing. Apple is selling a brand new operating system, easily to install, almosst impossible to get rid off and not working.
My mac worked perfectly with SL. I bought this full of "features" OS and now can't use my 27 iMac anymore. And no statement of Apple. No solution, no help.
I really think about suing Apple here in Germany for compensation: It will take me a lot of work to make my mac work againg. Who pays for it?

Oct 31, 2011 6:35 AM in response to robbertvddby SaraSM,Robbertvdd,
I'm dropping on both 2.4 and 5 GHz. Most of my neighbors seem to be on 2.4, so it's not just interference from neighbors. I have found it to be somewhat better since the last update, but it still is a real problem.

Oct 31, 2011 9:21 AM in response to Markus Oliverby Naughds,For the past 2 months I have been unable to use the Wifi at my apartment. Spontaneously, it was able to connect last night. I am elated.
The only thing that I changed on my computer from 2 days ago to yesterday was that I upgraded the drivers for bootcamp from Snow Leopard to Lion on a 20 gig partition of Windows 7 that I have been using for internet. I don't see why this would affect my Mac partition, but it is the only change that I have made and am now able to connect.

Oct 31, 2011 10:00 AM in response to lrogersinlvby mechaleon,Hi,
Maybe could sound weird but I have detected that the problem (wifi drop) is solved when I disconnect the magic mouse (bluetooth), so I am using a usb mouse and the connection is perfect for two days long.
It is not a good solution and I'm still waiting for an apple response but I prefer not to change back to Snow Leopard so I'm going to stay with the usb mouse for now.
