Nov 6, 2011 3:29 AM in response to MacZwikby laechleviel,If your iMac has the Atheros-wi-fi-chipset: Did you try No. 2 already? It realy works and if you don`t need Airdrop it`s the best solution yet in my opinion...

Nov 6, 2011 6:43 AM in response to laechlevielby MacZwik,Don't know if my iMac has the atheros wifi chipset, but I think so. After I made the time machine backup I will try this! Is there a way to change this back if apple fixed the problem?
-
Nov 7, 2011 11:38 PM in response to MacZwikby laechleviel,You can see if your Mac has the Atheros-chipset via "About this Mac" in the Apple-menu. Then choose "further information"/"systemreport"/"network"/"wi-fi"...
When Apple fixes the problem the driver for the atheros-chipset should be exhanced by the update automatically...

Nov 8, 2011 11:10 AM in response to georgefromtacomaby laechleviel,Would be interesting to know if the problems dissappear when you replace Lion`s Broadcom-wi-fi-driver with the old one from Snow Leopard...
Anyone tried this?

Nov 8, 2011 11:15 AM in response to RealEinsteinby georgefromtacoma,Tried that. Didn't work.
Macbook Pro has AirPort Extreme Card using Broadcom
Tried Renew DHCP Lease
Reboot the MAC
Reset the router
Only have one entry in the Preferred Networks
Added an extra DNS entry 8.8.8.8
Ran terminal with ping `route get default | awk '(/gateway/){print $2}'`
Deleted the networks and recreated the network

Nov 8, 2011 11:26 AM in response to georgefromtacomaby RealEinstein,(Just to be clear, I fixed it by deleting old and creating a new LOCATION in the main network window, NOT by deleting/creating network in the ADVANCED window).

Nov 8, 2011 2:38 PM in response to RealEinsteinby georgefromtacoma,I deleted the old and created a new location in the main network window also. It did not help.

Nov 9, 2011 11:53 AM in response to lrogersinlvby eve from santa monica,I too an having this exact same problem. My old Mac Book Pro - no problem at all with older OS connects to my basestaion everytime. My brand new iMac with Lion OS keeps disconnecting. Very frustrating and I hope Apple addresses this problem very soon.

Nov 9, 2011 12:46 PM in response to eve from santa monicaby JPSE,I chimied in somewhere along this thread because I was having the same problem.
I donnot have the tech knowledge that you all do, but I first noted that I was getting a wifi connection on my iMac after installing Lion, but that it would then disappear. I downloaded and installed Lion on my MacBook Pro and was not losing connectivity.
Aftre going round and round with a million different Apple specialists at my institution (university), I gave up. Then I spoke with a Tech specialist in provate industry who is a Mac user. He thought that it might have something to do with the router--an Airport bought in 2005, but that had worked well with allour Apple products, in general (iPhone, iPad and Macs). He suggested that I get the new Airport Extreme router. I did, and I have not had any problems since installing it...I also have a new, much more robust signal, with much greater range.
In the end, it cost me over $150 US to solve the problem, but I'm taking this hit for the team (not the Apple team, but my family). This might not solve anyone's problems, but it worked for me.

Nov 9, 2011 7:17 PM in response to JPSEby mymoon,I have a new Airport Extreme router but continue to have this problem with wifi on my MacBook Air (mid-2011) and Mac Mini w/ Lion Server (mid-2011). Problem is particularly bad on my Mini. Aggravating, really, because my work is heavily dependent on reliable Internet connection.

Nov 9, 2011 7:28 PM in response to mymoonby mymoon,Borrowing a phrase from Guy Kawasaki's blog post on what he learned from Steve Jobs: this wifi issue and Apple's inability/unwillingness to develop a solution have revealed a 'bozo explosion' in the midst of their organization. I relish the day that some MAJOR media outlet picks up this story and uses these multiple ongoing threads (along with the hundreds of thousands of views) on the wifi issue to illustrate how Apple just hosted the community board and did NOTHING about the issue for months. uh, that's assuming Apple does eventually fix this and their homegrown bozo problem.

Nov 11, 2011 5:33 AM in response to laechlevielby OuweEgberts,Could someone explain how exactly to replace Lion's wifi driver with the older wifi driver? So far I did the following, without any visible changes (I still see version 4.0 in the wifi firmware version in my system report):
1) Downloaded the zip
2) unzipped
3) unzipped the Kext
4) dropped the unzipped Kext utility in the "Utilities" folder of my Applications
Did I miss anything? Do I need to run the Kext utility after dropping it into my "Utilities" folder? (I'm not a tech expert...)
Thanks a lot
