I have just checked for new software and Apple have released a 3.2mb patch for mid 2001 macbook pros with WIFI connectivity issues. Just about to reinstall my computer post installation. Hoping this gets fixed now once and for all.......

Feb 8, 2012 2:29 AM in response to nzdan007by nzdan007,Just rebooted after installation of apple's new firmware and still no go!!!!
Symptoms are the same as everyone else.
If I am in front of my apple time capsule 3TB then connects fine. If I go down the hallway to our study where I have an iMac flawlessly accessing wifi, the MacBook pro (2010 model) loses connectivity.
If i try to reconnect, I am left with 1 of 2 errors;
1. A connection error and shaking window like I have the wrong password
2. If the wifi password is remembered then I click on the wifi network (showing as full reception) and after a pause a dialogue comes up saying cannot connect to "wifi network" an error occurred.
Very surprised to find that apples fix didn't help this.
This is absolute crap, do you realise apple how much convincing it took of my wife to outlay $8000 in switching from pc to Mac? And now this !!!!
Help me, Wellington- New Zealand

Are you suggesting this website will fix just the wifi issue? Or will this link set me to reinstall the entire OS ?

Feb 8, 2012 3:19 PM in response to nzdan007by Carlo TD,Here is something I wrote in another thread... I could honestly say I have no problems connecing to wifi when waking the computer. If you go to System Prefences and Network, choose your network; put a check mark in the box that says "Show Wifi status in menu bar," next click the advanced buton, Under Preferred Networks, minus out of all the networks, and put a check mark where it says "remember networks this computer has joined."
It is that simple. If you have trouble, then you just select the wifi symbol that looks like a tornado (that you now have) located next to the time on the menu bar.
I really wish you shared my joy with Lion, because, while I have had minor (fixable) issues that I have accomplished, Lion is really great. And I wish you shared my sentiment or at least tried to utilize 10.7.3 or use recovery assistant to get you back to optimum. The Recovery Disk Assistant is reached by starting the computer from starting the computer and holding down the Command + R keys at the same time, and reinstalling Lion from the server, (not TimeMachine), it could also be found in your utility folder.

Feb 8, 2012 7:59 PM in response to Carlo TDby lclcv,I have just spent about five hours using the Recovery Disk Assistant to download Lion. It installed just fine and gave all the right signs. Except my WiFi is still not working. I have a MacBook 2009 working fine until Lion.
Most of the time my WiFi is turned off and I cannot turn it on. I go through the Assistant and click it on there but nothing happens. No bars, no signal, nothing. The Turn Wi-Fi On is black and goes blue when pressed but doesn't toggle to On. When using Assistant - Diagnostics, I can get a tick in the Turn Wi-Fi on button but it can't find the network despite scanning for ages. I am able to connect via ethernet - obviously or I couldn't use Recovery.
Prior to embarking on a day of download, I tried just about all the suggestions mentioned throughout this forum - all to no avail.
Meanwhile - same modem and network - my two iMacs work fine. Wifi or ethernet. iPhone is also finding Wifi with no problems.

Feb 8, 2012 8:08 PM in response to lclcvby Carlo TD,Since your mac is prior to 2010 you will need to use the recovery disk assistant in the utility folder. There is a video above. If you do not have it in the utility folder you can get it from here. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
you can also try...
If you go to System Prefences and Network, choose your network; put a check mark in the box that says "Show Wifi status in menu bar," next click the advanced buton, Under Preferred Networks, minus out of all the networks, and put a check mark where it says "remember networks this computer has joined."

Feb 8, 2012 8:36 PM in response to Carlo TDby lclcv,The Recovery worked perfectly using Command R. It downloaded just fine. And as for the other hints, thanks, I have all that turned on all the time. It's not like I'm new to this or to software hassles as I've been using Mac since they were first made which makes this particularly frustrating.
The network is visible in the Advanced list under Wi-Fi. I even have a Wi-Fi address showing there. But I cannot turn Wi-Fi on. It just won't toggle. I've repaired persmissions, started up in safe mode, you name it.
Just every now and then - maybe every few days - I start up and there is it for about a minute before it blanks out again.

Feb 9, 2012 6:56 PM in response to Carlo TDby Brehan,Hey Carlo--as you can probably guess, I'm also having trouble connecting to the internet since I installed Lion. I have a 2011 Macbook Pro (i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 750 GB hard drive). My situation is slightly unique, though--so if you can't help me out, that's understable--but, I am a current college student, and obviously, I have to go through some set up network (where when you open safari, and go through a short download and privacy protection to get the actual network that I can browse the internet on). Well, ever since I've downloaded Lion, it won't save my network, and so, I can only get to browsing the internet if I basically go through the process of downloading the university wifi network again. I opened Network Preferences and I attempted to save--on multiple occasions--the university wifi network instead of the set up network, that it keeps defaulting to, but it won't keep! It's incredibly annoying and frustrating--especially as a first year engineering student. I constantly have to do low level programming. So, anyways, if you have any suggestions whatsoever, I would be VERY appreciative.

Feb 10, 2012 4:59 AM in response to laechlevielby John_Meyer,- Replacing Lion's wi-fi-driver for the Atheros-chipset with Snow Leopard's driver as described here http://rys.pixeltards.com/2011/09/04/osx-lion-wifi.html definitely worked in my case. No wi-fi-problems for about a week...
- Yesterday I went back to the Lion-driver (and the wi-fi-problems immediately came back) to give this http://www.nattl.at/2011/10/howto-disable-airdrop-on-osx-lion/ a try. It didn`t help...
Will this method work for MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) ??
Please reply!!
Thanks
