Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion.  The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly.  Please give me some advise....

    Hello All,

in my specific case, iMac 27' Summer 2010 the update to 10.7.3 improved dramatically the situation and I could eventually use Lion. Until 10.7.2 I could never really use it. Before the fix released today I noticed that sometimes the Internet connection remained stucked but turning off and on Airport I could solve the problem and use again the system.

After installing today the fix I've noticed that the connection to the wireless network is much faster than before and until now everything seems reliable and working properly.

Let's see what will happen in the next days as it is too early to give a final judgment...

But this is the 1st time that I could think to really make a migration...

Not sure this will help you or not, but it's worth a shot. Is your Airport Extreme's Airport Utility up to date?

I updated my Airport Express Utility to 5.6 when I was speaking with an Applecare Tech recently, which did help somewhat.

A little while ago, after seeing the post for the latest Wi Fi update, I decided to go for it. Seems to have no problems so far.

Is your Airport Utility up to date?  (My router is 6 years old. I was also told that most folks buy new routers every 2-3 years...How old is your router? Maybe updating the router will work with the update for Wi Fi.) Just a thought.

Hope it works out for you.

(EDIT)- you might also want to unplug your router for a few minutes, then plug it back in. That was helping me before the update, but maybe unplugging it for 10 seconds or so, then plugging it in again, and then rebooting, will help you.

    An update:

I restored my cloned drive, then, instead of updating through Software Update, I downloaded the update pkg.

Upon reboot from the update installation, my iMac grabbed my 5ghz connection properly. I then sequentially put my iMac to sleep/rebooted/and shut down and it grabbed the proper network after all three conditions.

I can't explain it, and I don't understand it, but there it is.

I had the opposite problem. 10.7.2 was bad for me on my iMAC, but when I did the 10.7.3 update, things got progressively worse!

I'm glad your machine is running good now. I noticed that mine is running much faster. It was so slow, hanging and pages taking a long time to load. I hope this latest fix holds.

Of course I'm still keeping my main partition with Snow Leopard...  I'm using a secondary partition with Lion just to check when the system reaches a stability that could let me think to perform the real final migration.

So let's see how this improvement is really behaving in the next days and if finally solves or not..

Thank you for your support !

In any case the fix released today is really fixing the sleep problem because after going out from the sleep the wireless is reconnected almost instantly...

I wouldn't waste my time responding to the original poster here.

He hasn't been back here since he posted this on June 20, 2011.....

His other 3 thread has no activity from him here either so apparently he no longer cares or has fixed his problems...

    Let's move forward without him........

I installed the wifi fix on my 2010 iMac 27" and IT WORKS. No problems on wifi reconnecting after waking up from sleep.

The problem reported from echelon3 did NOT affect my system. My Time Capsule's dual wifi bands are both active, and seen by my iMac.

    Thanks, Apple engineers.

Like many others I found that after installing OS 10.7.3 my new iMac lost its wifi connection (to Airport Exteme) every time it was put to / went to sleep.  This evening a fix came through from Apple and it WORKS.  Hurrah!

    Thanks, Apple.

    Hi there,

My problem was with Macbook pro (mid 2010) dropping randomly........

To clarify is this fixed to date?

Or is just the iMacs for now ?

The fix is for iMacs. However, there are also a couple of new firmware updates for Macbook Pro and Macbook Air. You should check and see if they apply to your model...it looks like they're for newer models, but I may be wrong.

I never had the problem until I installed the Mac OS X 10.7.3 update, but the fix offered today on Software Update works on my iMac (mid-2010).

    Hi there,

You see, my problem is that my macbook pro is the one that's been playing up.

BUT - my iMac hasn't had a problem ever...... and my concern is......upgrade to the "new driver" and stuff up the wifi for that.

Any help would be would appreciated, worst case scenario, I am at work and the computer does an auto software update and my wife clicks OK/proceed.
