Mar 1, 2012 8:51 AM in response to LMStone510by MikeDoc,Hi people,
Been having exactly the same problem(s) as a lot of you. This worked for me though, so give it a go. If it doesn't work for you then at least you've eliminated a possible cause:
Reset the SMC. On iMac all you do is pull out the power lead, wait 15-20 seconds, plug it back in, wait 5 seconds then switch on.
For notebooks etc. please Google the correct procedure.
Hope this sorts you out,
Mike.

Mar 1, 2012 2:14 PM in response to lrogersinlvby a.goodwin,I'll add my name to the list.
Same symptoms as many here, but only on my mid-2007 Intel Mini. It'll connect to the wifi router and hold the connection for about a minute or two, then it drops.
I've tried all sorts of fixes and tweaks to no avail.
My mid-2007 Intel iMac is also running Lion, but never has any issues with wifi.

Mar 1, 2012 4:20 PM in response to a.goodwinby lclcv,This problem of connection for a minute or two seems to be related to the model. My MacBookPro is early 2008 with
Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x88)
Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.36.11)
I have noticed that most people with this problem have the same. Wi-fi will just not turn on once it's disconnected. Very frustrating and nothing mentioned anywhere on the forum has fixed it. Even a clean install of 10.7.3.

Mar 1, 2012 4:56 PM in response to lclcvby Javajoe,Hmmm, I have a mid-2007 iMac desktop with that exact Airport configuration and I have had issues with my Wi-Fi. I had lots of problems with drops back in November and December after upgrading to Lion. I bought a brand-new Airport router. Did not fix the problem. Had Comcast update my modem and it fixed the problem immediately. That was mid-December. It worked fine until about a week ago. It was harder and harder to wake up my internet after sleep. Two days ago I decided to bite the bullet and update to 10.7.3. I went back to drops every few minutes and it took 20 minutes to wake from sleep. Hair-pulling time. I immediately ordered a Wireless USB adapter. However the day after the upgrade (and after I had ordered the adapter) I did a reboot of my modem and router. My computer has been fine since.
So I don't know what to tell anyone about what works for what computer but I do find your research on the Airport card interesting. I noticed that a.goodwin posted that he/she has a mid-2007 iMac (the same as mine?) with no problems with Lion. I wonder if he/she has a different Airport card.

Mar 1, 2012 11:29 PM in response to lrogersinlvby laurafromhuntington beach,I cannot believe I am having the same issues in February 2012 still! I kept calling apple care and they listen to me like they never heard this case before. Nobody helped me until now. I even took it to the store and they say it works just fine, it must be my router... when all other devices in the house work perfectly.
I installed the wifi update that came out this week but nothing improved. I cannot believe this company has this serious issues and charges so much money for computers. I wish I still have my pc. I am Very very angry.

Mar 2, 2012 4:56 AM in response to lrogersinlvby benlegend,I also have the same problems. I changed from my macbook pro with snow leopard to a macbook air with lion and I have those problems especially after returning from standby mode. The airport is looking for a known connection but after 5 seconds, there pops up a list with available wifis and the message, that no known network could be find. The best thing is that my preferred network is always in this list! After installing of the update, three days ago, the problem was solved for one day in my home network. But after I went to school, it couldn't connect with the school network and the problem is worse than ever. Now I have to deactivate the airport and turn it on again in order to build up a connection.
Want my MB pro back :-( Need help!!!

Mar 2, 2012 6:32 AM in response to lrogersinlvby skittles19823,Not sure what's going on either. I know that 2 days or so ago, I noticed I had 3 or 4 updates. I installed those. Then the day after, I noticed 6 or 7 times, my connection would drop but quickly re-establish. I search for an update, find one, install it.. and sure enough it's a wi-fi update! woohoo right? Just for yesterday. Now, we have an Acer laptop that will connect to our wi-fi network, but my iMac won't. It does connect, just nothing will load; no internet, no skype, etc If i turn my mobile hotspot from my phone on and connect to that, it works just fine. But when I try to switch back to my home network... same problems. ***? I don't have time for all of this. I work for an internet based business. When internet's down... I don't work. I hope apple has some sort of update or possible solution for this. Oh, I should mention my mobile hotspot's about as useful as a hammer when you need a screwdriver. I live in Shreveport.. where apparently sprint forgot to install some towers... the service here *****. Ok, venting over

Mar 2, 2012 6:38 AM in response to skittles19823by BenHart67,Our students at the University I work at have been having tons of trouble too and for now we've finally found a $50 workaround. We purchased about five of these for loan:
Students having wireless issues have had a steady connection without a single drop-out since they installed these. Basically until Apple fixes the problem, these are our solution. It's unfortunate we have to spend more money to fix their issue, but something had to be done.

Mar 2, 2012 7:47 AM in response to lrogersinlvby Matt Sephton,My girlfriend has been having this for a year or so, and I thought it was her Mac. Recently I have started to have the issue. It's very annoying.
I've tried every solution from deleting the network and wifi settings and then resetting SMC by unlugging the computer cycling the power.
I've also reported this as an issue to Apple. Please help us!

Mar 2, 2012 2:27 PM in response to lrogersinlvby skittles19823,Hi there! I believe this may fix it. At least it appears to have worked for me. I ran a wired connection the last few hours (with an ethernet cord through a window) But it got me thinking because I could ping other terminals on our network, as well as the router, but not the www. So, I went to preferences > network > wi-fi connection> advanced > tcp/ip > and changed "Using DHCP" to manual and entered a manual IP address and clicked apply. Next, let that sit for a minute, go back and change it back to "using DHCP" and click apply (dont press renew yet; if you press renew, it goes back to manual ? ). After apply, press renew. What I noticed is on the DNS tab, there were two 75.xx.xx.xx numbers there that now were replaced with a 172.xx.x.x. number and all my services work now. I'd definitely give that a try. Seems maybe the mac wi-fi update reverted or changed some of my DNS settings.
(now that i read further up, this sounds similar to SteveSunnyvale's post)

Mar 3, 2012 8:08 AM in response to Carlo TDby torndownunit,Well, I posted a few times earlier in the thread that I have been free of the problem for about a month. It seems to have started to return over the last couple of days. I am not even 100% sure what fixed it last time, so I am dreading starting this process again. I may have to bump up my plan of running ethernet cable from the basement to my office and hardwiring it.
