Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion.  The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly.  Please give me some advise....

THis is absolutely ridiculous! Apple makes me laugh. I've used windows for years, and all the Apple followers go and talk me into getting one and the bloody thing cant even keep a wireless connection after engaging it from sleep mode, I also bought an Apple TV2 oh what a mistake, that thing cant even hold a connection for more than 2 songs. Apple Macbook Pro  and Apple TV 2 biggest pieces of crap I have ever had!!!! Look at the responses for gods sake. Fix this wifi issue! I cant wait to see Windows 8!

Have you ever traveled? And you go to find out that the outlet is a different shape from your plug... or have you ever driven in a car that has the seats automatically adjust to setting number 1 or setting number 2, and then you get in your car, and the settings of the seat goes back to the way the factory set them, and not the settings of number 1 or number 2... well sometimes, settings in the computer are remembered and sometimes they get messed up and default to something other than you expected. Well, you should check if this is what happened to you. And yes, sometimes a person needs to make sure their firmware, drivers, and software are upgraded to the latest firmware, drivers, and software. And sometimes it means making modifications like getting a new router or getting the propper extention for your cord so it fits into the wall or getting some one to help you reset your seats so you have your settings back to the way you had in # 1 and # 2 settings.

And sometimes something happens, like malware... and we corelate it to one thing and not another... inductive reasoning...

You're kidding! Yep travelled the world and I actually like those plug adapters for every country. They are very handy and actually work! This is a new Macbook Pro apparenlty flash as ****. New router, new apple tv 2 latest in hardward apparently the best componentry money can buy even though you can get the same components in any other laptop for half the price. Yep I agree Apple you make things look great but man when it comes to the so called simplicity of everything, its out the window. Iphones are the same. Its old and getting dated. Look at what others are doing. I would love for this new macbook pro to be everything I was told it should be and I think they may be on the old snow leopard operating system, but lion is a let down. hurry and release the next one and fix it all.

Then why are you wasting time on AFP (... according to wikipedia Apple Filing Protocol) also known as "AppleTalk"???

Because as you suggested I looked into ways to try and fix the problem found out how to setup using ATV2 with AFP and since it works slightly better than home sharing through it was a better road to go down. Would be great if home sharing just worked.

No its a new thompson router. Surely the router will work ok. When I check the network on the ATV2 it says everything is ok. I was going to buy an Apple Capsule as I need a back up device as well, but havent had a chance to get one yet.

I cant tell you if it is ok or not. I know AppleTalk is not used anymore. I could not even tell you how to set it up, with out doing research. I would suggest you dont use it. I am logging off of here soon, but will be online. If you need to chat with me my ichat email is in my profile.

Ok, i'll re-set it all and see how it works, but home share through itunes was always dropping out when i used ATV2 out of the box. I'm probably more feed up with losing my connecting in sleep mode on my laptop. I'm forever moving around my office, or taking it out to site. I just hope they fix it soon. Maybe it'll just be a case of waiting for the mountain lion os to come out. Thanks for the help.

    Junkie,

Have you tried setting your router to only use B? This worked for me fine. May work in your case too.

Not sure what you mean by B? I have played around with the router settings, but dont think I saw a setting for B.

I had a very good math teacher that said... if I could not get past not-understanding the introductory chapter in the book, I was going to have trouble in each subsequent chapter (or another way my math teacher put it) if I was not going to understand what I did wrong in a problem,  it would not matter how many times the problem is repeated becaue the out come will be the same. Now write your multiplcation tables five times.

    junkie,

There should be a setting where you can select between

Wireless mode something like this 11B 11G 11N etc, try it by selecting 11B. You may need to hunt around for it, it does degrade the speed of your wifi though.

I spoke too soon, arghh, it was stable for about 2 hours and now it's worse than before going up and down like a yoyo. I'm using other wireless devices, they all work fine. And I just cancelled my genius appointment for tomorrow.
