Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion.  The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly.  Please give me some advise....

I upgraded to Lion several days ago and I have my I-Mac from late 2009 hooked up via wi-fi on Verizon Fios. Since the upgrade my Wi-fi for my entire home has been affected. All of a sudden, no devices in my home get an internet signal. Ipad 2, Apple TV, cell phones, PC Laptop, and this MAC. They all get a strong router signal but no connectivity. Verizon has spent hours on the phone with me running tests, 3 different routers, and a field call. No hardware issues here - my connectivity just sporadically dies out- SINCE INSTALLING LION. Snow Leopard ran flawlessly since I installed the software, I never had an issue with the computer or wi-fi before the Lion update. Let me know if anyone has ideas please.

I think I owe Apple an excuse, after further investigation it seems my connection problems are not related to Lion (or at least not the majority, wifi still has some minor stability glitches) but the largest part of our problems seem to originate from a b0rken Draytek DSL router. I noticed the router was rebooting every 7 to 10 minutes thus causing the wifi connection also to drop. First I thought the router was broken but after a SW upgrade of the Draytek it was fine again. But the funny part is this really started the minute we upgraded Lion. Coincidence? Dunno... But at least my Wifi seems much better now, altough latency is still a bit jumpy with some incidental packetloss.

But seeing the huge amount of complaints here there is still obviously something wrong with Lion. But perhaps there *is* a relation between Lion and my router problems. So it might not hurt to check the SW of yout Wifi AP and also your DSL router.

You are all simply kidding yourselves if you think this problem may be a hardware issue, or a update for your routers, or firmware for them. This problem IS the operating system, period. It is selective in its level of dysfunction, but it is a dysfunction that no one has been able to resolve.  To think that apple somehow builds an os that works for wireless signals that only are configured for an apple wireless card is ridiculous.

I have had associates try to connect in many different places and the same issue exists everywhere.

To think that a company that depends so much on internet connections released this os as is, and has not attempted to fix it, is insulting to devoted mac owners.

There is a clear message one can send. Ask for a refund. It does not work. It does not have the single most important feature of a mac working, wifi.

Why whatever they did to the os made our machines no longer macs is THEIR problem to solve.

Do you remember when you opened your new Mac with Snow Leopard on it, and it started, and it found your available netwworks, and it stayed connected to them? I do, as do so many others who smiled when that happened and said, it's a mac. That did not happen with this os. It failed from the start, and continues to fail, and it is apples issue to resolve, but they are moving on it in a way that is starting to resemble the debt ceiling debate in Washington. It's broken and it's not getting fixed.

So your router mysteriously broke when Lion was installed?

    Hi,

    I have the same problem!

I install the Lion and the problems start, drop my connection without any warning.

If the problems persist I made a downgrade and claim my money back.

    Hi everyone,

Browsing the web via Safari suddenly Apple multilanguage inf has showed up to restart the system with system button. So I did it. After rebooting I found out that I do not have a wifi connection and what is more the statement that "wifi card is not installed".

Few days ago I installed Lion. There was nothing like that under Snow Leopard.

I called to Apple Poland and via email I received a software: Capture Data which may collect and use the information about system, airport etc. by Apple.

So now I need to be patient and wait few days for an answer from Apple.

Have to agree that if enough people ask for refund it should make them listen.

hows that for available data apple?

Yes, perhaps some clever person can set up a Facebook page for disgruntled Lion early adopters.  Maybe it should have a snappy title like Cavies Trash Lion?  And dedicated to persuading Apple to make refunds all round and get back to the drawing board until they can release a proper working OS.

Anyone out there up for this?

    Emstec,

Only at day after of upgrade (I did it at midnight and I went sleep after first boot and Java´s update) my wife call me to tell me about wifi issue.
Curiously at day after no one of my devices could connect with Internet (iPhone and Windows PC). Mac was the first device turned on in that day. I tell to my wife turn off the router/dsl modem for 30 minutes. All devices remained turned on.
After that time when router/dsl modem was turned on, all devices were able to get connection to internet but on the Mac continues lost connection.

Now all devices are working fine. The Mac only if the ping is running.

    ---

More one thing ... I know many people who does not search on web for a solution yet. They simple call to support.

There seem to be a lot of posts that suggests that installation of Lion either will not connect wirelessly (as in my case) or if it does that it mucks things up elsewhere on the network.  Rather like having a real wild Lion loose in your house thrashing about!

If the answer to all this is just to call Apple for support, how come no one has posted the definitive answer yet?  Can't be that simple, my friend.

    > Yes, perhaps some clever person can set up a Facebook page

I have created an open group on Facebook named "OSx Lion".  I don't know if it will be useful; if it turns into a cesspool I will just delete it.

Okay, perhaps this helps a bit in determining what the problem could be as well.

Straight forward wifi connection to my Airport, with default DHCP settings. Always performed really well under SL, but since Lion installation it's very slow setting up the connection. Mine doesn't drop to often (knocks on wood).

But sometimes I have to wait for ages to allow it to "see" the Airport and get my wifi up.

I have read through the whole thread and many others as I was experiencing the drop out of connection, click a link and 5 to 10 seconds of spinning beach ball before the page came up, being a very front end user all the suggestions were confusing me so I tried moving my wireless connection to the top of the available network list, having omitted to press the apply button I  obviously saw no difference, as a last chance I thought I would follow the SMC reset operation, as I closed my machine down I got a reminder to either cancel or apply the change to the network setting, I clicked apply, did the SMC reset and then rebooted the machine and for the last 24 hours the connection has been constant, now I have a working connection but I do not know which one if any has solved my problem, i always promised myself I would only change one thing at a time but I think after a long trying evening I was a bit fed up and just clicked OK and shut the machine down. The machine has been off during the day but with fingers crossed I booted up this evening and everything still seems to be working OK.

I think the router problem relates to DNS issues, disconnects etc.. Failure to connect in the first place, keychain passwords becoming invalid and plist information incorrect, are another. What I don't understand is why we see the same issues now as a year or more ago?
