Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

I've installed Lion and WIFI doesn't work well

It's a pretty anoying bug on my iMac Mid 2009 i5!

Sometimes I have to de- and reactivate aiport every 5 minutes...

I tried to delete every .plists i found in the main and the users library according to Wi-Fi or Airport... I made SMC and PRAM-Reset. I repaired the permissions... I deactivated Java (I needed to install, because of PS CS5.1)....

Nothing helped.

I hope, there will be an update very soon!

Maybe someone knows about another workaround;-)

So.  I have the same problem along with everyone... I was playing around and randomly ticked 'auto proxy discovery' ad applied the setting and my net seems to be working..  I don't use a proxy. But it's working

I just tried this as well, let me know how it works for you.  I'm going to leave my computer alone for a bit.

I'm experiencing the same wifi connection issues with my Mac mini late 2009 on a Telekom Speedport W 700v router with the latest firmware.

ALL the workarounds mentioned work for me.... until another device connects to my router.

Doesnt matter if it connects wirelessly or with a cable. As soon as there is another device on the network it kills the internet connection for all of them. They all stay connected but cant access the internet anymore. Have to restart the router after that.

So its either all of my devices (without the mac running Lion) at the same time or only the Mac with Lion. As soon as there is another device next to the mac connected to the router the internets stop working for me. Seems the big cat doesnt except anyone else next to him ;-)

I just wanted to share this observation. Maybe it helps in finding a solution.

PS: Snowleopard worked fine until the upgrade to Lion. Never had any problems with my network. Ever.

Not sure this will help anyone... but I was having the same issue (slow wi fi),  I went into network settings and made the ethernet and bluetooth PAN connections inactive.  Now my connection seems to be a lot more responsive and snappy.  Will keep monitoring my connection and give an update.  Good Luck all.

Fingers crossed.  I saw a post from another community member saying that they merely changed the AP channel being used by the router from automatic to something specific.  I chose #11 on my end and that appeared to have done the trick.  You would need to administer your router to make this change and then reboot said router.  Then turn off then on your wifi connection to have it reconnect on the new channel.

I found a workaround, that seems to work for me (I didn't have the problem for the last two hours!).

Deactivate airport

System Preferences -> Network: Delete Airport by clicking on the minus on the left side. Then add it again by clicking on the plus an reorder the connections, so the new added aiportconnection is at the top again.

Activate airport

I hope, that my connection will be stable. At the moment it's definitely better - sometimes a bit slow, but stable.

After two hours the problem appears again

I started to experience WIFI network issues as soon as I'd upgraded to Lion on Wednesday.  I tried countless times to resolve it, changing AP channels, deleting and creating new user accounts, deleting and creating new network locations, changing router for new model etc to no avail.  I spent 2 hours today with Apple support on the telephone, to the point where I'd even exhausted all their ideas.  Their parting shot was to enter recovery mode (ALT -R during boot up) and reinstall Lion.  Tried this earlier......it relies on their being a network connection to verify Lion install....and guess what.....Mac couldn't verify as the WIFI wouldn't work!!!!!

And all on a Mid 2010 iMac!!!

Now 2/3rds of the way through clean install of Snow Leopard...go back to an OS that actually works!

Very poor show Apple.......TIP.....don't release software with glaring bugs like this!!!

Never touch a running system ;-)

And we're all now beta-testers as always... That's the reason, why you never should install a new OS on a productive machine...

Nevertheless I hope there will be an update quite soon to fix this bug!

Oh and by the way, I do not have airport I have verizon fios and have never had a problem with my wifi or Mac Book Pro prior to the Lion upgrade.  Again, Hello Apple are you there or are you going to be like Microsoft and ignore the user community?  Scott

I am having problems as well. Once booted, i do not have the Air Port Icon with no wifi connection, as well as time and the other icons on the top right bar. I have to boot into "safe mode" holding shift key and once booted do a restart and everything comes up fine. I also am having issues with programs crashing, sometimes no audio etc. This has to be the worst "UPGRADE" i have ever seen, including Microsoft. it took forever to convince to go "Mac". Once i did i was hooked because of its stability and lack of viruses etc. Now i am back where i was a few years ago..

Welcome back Snow Leopard....everything working again....got several downloads going at same time AND browsing....not a sign of a drop out in connectivity...

All I need now is a refund from Apple for the price paid for Lion and all is well.....
