Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion.  The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly.  Please give me some advise....

Seeing as you are so smart to know that it is NOT a Lion issue, why not finish by telling us what the issue is.

"The developers are not going to get much out of reading 46 pages of comments unless each comment is short and concise about what works or doesn't work, and what steps you've tried."

Except that the developers nor tech support read this forum. Only feedback via AppleCare phone support, the express lane or a genius bar appointment is looked at for such things.

How does you post solve any problems? "Wait and See" does not contribute. All it does is let others find and solver the problems.

Yes. I was even having problems with my Apple airport. I tried reloading the software onto the airport and still could not connect. I reloaded Snow Leopard and surprise, surprise. The airport worked with the new settings! I have not solution, just frustration.

    Buona giornata!

Apple has not yet solved the problem and this is serious!
    Good day!

Absolutely agree, the problem is the Atheros 9280 with Lion. I confirm,no solution in 47 pages solves the problem. Would it be possible to downgrade the firmware to the version of the Atheros 9280 in SL? What version of firmware is present in SL? I think I read something similar a few pages ago ...
Needless to expose all the frustration with a problem like that.

PS: A friend of mine imac with 21.5 in 2011 has the Atheros 9380:4.0.55.4-P2P + Lion 10.7.1 and no wifi problem!

Finalmente abbiamo scoperto qualcosa...speriamo in bene!

    Buona giornata!

.... finally someone who agrees with me ....
My iMac is 2009 so the firmware is older .... if it works with version 9380, a firmware updatewould be enough ..... but I will wait from 40 days to move something!
Finally we found something ... hopefully for good!
    Have a nice day!

    Hi.

    Me too from Italy.

Same situation of previous ones: Firmware Atheros version 9280 and Alice gate 2 wi-fi plus.

Same result: the problem is still there :-(

I've noticed something else about these strange Lion dropouts.  When my Lion iMac drops it's wifi connection, it seems to be corrupting all the other devices on the network, which simultaneously lose their connections as well. The other devices (non-Lion) can only rejoin once the iMac reconnects (sometimes on its own, sometimes by toggling wifi power).  If I put the iMac to sleep all issues with the other devices go away.  Very strange...

Adding a new network location andsetting a manual IP address resolves the issue with me on some routers, otherwise maintaining a constant 'ping' seems to maintain the connection in some situations. A few other ideas here:

    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/wifi-dropping-in-os-x-lion-fixes/

This clearly only effects some routers and Mac combinations, but I can't find any consistency between brands other than Linksys being the most reliable.

    Buona giornata!

Everything is fine, but why not Apple system?
I do not want to mess around on my computer and maybe do something wrong!
However, last I checked I have to back up the firmware was the Snow Leopard: 9280.2.1.4.6 and it worked: this confirms that the new firmware with Lion does not work.
I would do something only if it were possible to upgrade or downgrade the firmware only.
    Have a nice day!
