Q: Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion.  The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly.  Please give me some advise....

    Versioni software:

      CoreWLAN:          2.0 (200.46)

      CoreWLANKit:          1.0 (100.43)

      Menu extra:          7.0 (700.42)

      plugin configd:          7.0 (700.57)

      System Profiler:          7.0 (700.3)

      Famiglia IO80211:          3.1.1 (311.1)

      Diagnostica Wi-Fi:          1.0 (100.26)

      Utility AirPort:          5.5.3 (553.20)

      Interfacce:

    en1:

Tipo di scheda:          AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x8F)

      Versione firmware:          Atheros 9280: 2.1.9.8.1

I've experienced similar problems to the ones described in this thread.  I went back to Snow Leopard for now, but I just want to add my name to this problem.

Had same wifi issues with my mid-2011 MBA and this has provided satisfaction:

Anyone know of a similar solution for a Mac Mini (mid-2011) with Lion Server?

    Qualche suggerimento?

OS X Lion is a complete mess: Wifi does not work. The automatic light of MacBook Pro keyboard does not work. Launchpad is good for nothing. Auto save is a mess (I have lost files because of that). The user interface is a pastiche.

And the way things are going, I'll give up Apple too.

Yesterday I did a clean install of OS X Lion, and the wifi does not work. I am just an average user. I just want a hardaware and software that works. I don't have to find a solution for the problem that Apple has caused.

That's enough. I give up OS X Lion.

If Apple sells a product that does not work, the only thing I do is saying NO to Apple and stop buying their products.

Besides the wifi connection problems for some but not all, there is also a serious bug in the wired Ethernet sharing to wifi devices. Try it and watch the connections drop about 5 times a day. Now this is with an Apple device (IMac) sharing to another Apple device (iPhone or iPad)!  Both using Apple wifi chipsets.

Apple has been informed of this months ago via bug reporter but still no fix.

So far, after 24 hours of keeping my MBA (mid-2011, 13", Lion 10.7.1) on and accessing the Internet constantly throughout the day, I believe this fix to the Broadcom wifi chipset driver has been the solution for me:

    http://thoughts.maayank.com/2011/08/wireless-problems-with-macbook-air-and.html

But now my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion server is now dropping the wifi connection on average every 5 minutes. I'd like to know how to implement this same solution with my Mac Mini. Anyone know?

Note that's not a fix, it's a horrible hack that could have dire consequences for your machine's hardware and/or security.

I just bought my first imac last weekend.   I'm having the same problem of random wifi dropping. It seems mostly from sleep mode but I believe other times as well but not 100% sure.  I have a iphone 4, ipad 2 and another windows PC laptop using the same wifi with no problems only the new imac.  I tried changing the channel from auto to 11 and that didn't help.  I did finally use an ethernet cable to get the internet and everything works great.  I rather use the wifi but I guess I will use the ethernet cable and maybe Apple will have a fix for the problem someday and then I can go back to wifi.  I was just going to call apple support in the morning but after reading all the other people having the same problem I might wait.  I still might call anyway just to see what they say.

I agree with William Kucharski. I did the kext thing before realizing it was a hack. Now, my MBA will freeze and will need a force reboot every time I try to switch the wifi on or off. But I have to admit, it was the only thing that works for me.

I used these (http://thoughts.maayank.com/2011/08/wireless-problems-with-macbook-air-and.html) excellent instructions and for the moment it seems to work fine.

One of the replies to the Article reads:

I'm so upset. I paid nearly 1600 pounds for this piece of horse .... and it doesn't ....... work. If I had wanted to spend all day, every day under the bonnet fixing it i'd have bought a ford cortina. This is my first apple, and i can see why they only have 2% of the computer market now. Nice shiny glossy rubbish that's no use for anything other than playing videos on.

This problem has been up in the air since July 20. Apple does an awefull lot of damage by ignoring this.

i am a first-time mac user and just got my mini yesterday and from the get-go, my wifi connection has been connecting-disconnecting almost every other minute, even during the updates downloading/installing and i was getting frustrated. my lenovo notebook, ipod, ipad & iphone have no problem and disruption with wifi connection. there are some who suggest to change the DNS server setting to 8.8.8.8. if i change this, would this effect the other devices that is currently connected to the wifi?
