Finder search can no longer be restricted (to file names)

The search option in the finder no longer allows you to restrict your search to filenames.

You can restrict the search to a particular directory, but the ability to search on filenames only is gone, you are stuck with full text searches of your enitre directory contents.

Try CMD+SHIFT+F which should default to Filename.

Hi. This thread seems to be the quesiton I just posted :-( When searching in Spotlight (in Snow Leopard) and choosing see all results (show in finder now) the finder bar had four buttons --two for search location adjustments (this mac /current directory) and two for search adjustments (contents / file names). Now the content/file name button is gone in Lion -and from this thread it seems the only fix basically is to do an advanced search. I liked the content/file name button and used it a lot in Spotlight. Is this choice gone or can it be re-enabled? (So far in the thread it seems like it's gone ;-(

thanks

S Coope,

1. In the previous OS, after you found a file, the headers might be Kind and Last Opened, and you could click on the header and have it sort by Kind, or Last opened.

Now, they are still in the header, but you cannot click on them to sort by. You must go to View > Arrange by.

Is this correct, you can no longer sort by clicking on the header?

2. In the previous OS, you could change the width of the columns, simply by clicking and dragging at the header, just like in Excel. Now, I cannot find a way to do this. I cannot change the column widths.

Expertise?

I can still click on the column headers to sort, as long as Arrange By is set to None. Which leads to...

You can only change column widths if Arrange By is set to None. Arrange By categorises your files into groups, which could be quite useful at times but the columns are fixed.
