OK. I just booted back into Lion and see that I was mistaken. Click on Desktop or in a Finder window, type in your search term, and note that you'll get a dropdown, which has Flenames at the top with a Filename contains whatever you've typed in so far.

Thank you s_coope  for the tips --they work~

Also, blatwo, I tried clicking on my desktop and in Finder windows at various spots and I can't replicate the dropdown you show in the above --on the desktop L clicking produces nothing and R clicking produces a dialogue box with "New Folder/ Get Info/ Change desktop bkrnd/etc. Clicking on the finder bar presents icon text options, Clicking on the left sidebar prodices nothing and clicking in the main display box of Finder produces the conventional "open/open with/ move to trash/etc.. dialogue box. . . . how did you create that drop down?

Also, is there no way to restore the Snow Leopard Finder seach window buttons for file name/file contents?

    thanks!

Sorry, I assumed you understood the implied way to get a search box:

Click on Desktop or in a Finder window (CMD+F), type in your search term,…
