Finder search can no longer be restricted (to file names)

The search option in the finder no longer allows you to restrict your search to filenames.

You can restrict the search to a particular directory, but the ability to search on filenames only is gone, you are stuck with full text searches of your enitre directory contents.

Try CMD+SHIFT+F which should default to Filename.

Being required to make a 3-fingered salute where one previously simply clicked the option in the finder window is clearly a step backwards in "Intuitiveness" AND "Userfriendlyness!"

Alas, Lion has many new features which have been touted -- but far too many of these "subtle changes," like this one, which are completely un-declared and undocumented.

BTW, Thanks.

No, I didn't miss your point. Spotlight searches have been crippled since Tiger's days. That's why I submitted these: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050501162147222 and http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080229204517495. That said, Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts shows: Shift-Command-F->Find Spotlight file name matches, so it's documented.😉

I don't know what OSX did before Snow Leopard, but the ability to change from contents to filename in the window directly was great! I navigate where I need to be, start my search, and only filenames or contents are searched.

Then along came Lion, and I have to use the Command-Shift-F to open a new finder window; browse to the network share and/or folder to start your search; paste the saved search string (you did have that text in a paste buffer, didn't you? Never hurts to save stuff you may need again!); and you see the magic little drop-down with filename pre-selected. You quickly save that search, because you never want to go through that mess again!

All I want is that little new drop-down to always be available in the search box. That would change the "Contents" display to "Filename", because you only get one shot to see what the search is doing, once you click that little drop-down, it goes away forever.

Apple blew it on this one
