Hi, Office mac 2008 and 2011 appear to be working ok under lion. Do you have one of these?
Cheers
Microsoft will probably have to update it, which might take some time, they don't really love apple users. But you could try pages(from apple) instead, it's basically the same but simpler to use.
As well as Pages, if you want a temporary free solution you can try Neo Office for Mac.
Mac Office 2004? Is a 7 year old PPC App and will not work in Lion along with all other PPC apps.
I understand Office 2008 & 2011 work OK with Lion.
So it's down to either reinstalling Snow Leopard or upgrading Office..
Best.
Hey, I bought this from Apple, so they want me to WAIT???? Whay kind of half-assed "solution" is that?
I just installed Lion after waiting for a while as I use Office regualarly and was hoping that any bugs had been sorted. I didn't read any recent complaints on these forums....
however, all seems ok apart from, every time I open a Word, it opens up every other word doc i've opened that day. not cool when you've opened around 30 documents in a day!
any ideas or solutions??
thanks
Josh

Go to System Preferences->General. In the thrid group down look for the box "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps". Deselect this check box. I agree that that "feature" is very annoying!
Good luck - Randy

I'm no big fan of Microsoft, however they recently updated Office for Mac 2008 in September, 2011. So apparently they are still actively supporting it.

I just upgraded to Lion and none of my microsoft 2008 office apps work now. They all crash upon launch (Word, Excel, Power Point). Downloading the latest office '08 update to see if that helps. Very frustrating.
What version of Office do you have, if 2004 you will need to purchase an upgrade to 2008 or 2011, support for 2004 was dropped in Lion.
Apple does not support Rosetta anymore. That is whats needed to make older applications work. I use a version on Canvas X and was aware of the non supporting of Rosetta so I still have not upgraded a few of my computers to Lion yet.
Just downloaded the '08 update from Microsoft and only Word opens now. Excel, upon launching, flashes "Not Enough Memory" and crashes. Power Point just crashes mid-launch.

Do you mean that you purchased Office 2008? there is no update from Office 2004 to Office 2008 available from Microsoft.
I have had 2008 for a couple years now. I never had '04. Just upgraded to Lion over the weekend. After the '08 update from Microsoft I'm only able to use Word. Excel tells me when any file I try to open (even blank ones) that there is not enough memory and Power Point just crashes upon launch.

OK
2008 works on Lion, I suggest un-installing and then re-installing 2008, I use it (Excel) daily with no issues on Lion.
I can't use microsoft word with OS X Lion
