Sort by kind messed up

Just click on the little triangle in the headers, it changes the sort order of the column.

It's a bit confusing and odd that it wasn't fixed.

The Arrange By menu allows you to arrange by all the options. If you hold down the option key, the arrangement menu becomes Sort by. This allows you to arrange by "Kind" and sort by Date modified (or any other combination). However, there is no way to change the sort order with an Arrangement set.

The only way I've found to reverse the sort order is to set Arrange by to None, set the sort order in List view, and then go back to whatever you wanted to arrange by.

Ian, you haven't selected an Arrange by option. There are no sort triangles with an Arrangement set.

I was just talking about column views, it was not clear in the first post that it was for other views.

I haven't figured that out and it may be a bug. I've run into that periodically, but it eventually goes back to normal order. I've searched for something that will reverse the order, but to no avail.

I've found a better solution,

set Arrange by as you want and then hold down option key before opening the menu again.

This way you'll be able to sort indipendently.

I'm still searching for the "Use as default" option in my View Options...

I think we've covered that already.

That is the way it does work, but sometimes it reverses the order, which there is no way to control. Instead of sorting A to Z, it decides it is going to sort Z to A.

So how do I change the sort order in Column-View. On my mac it shows up in reverse sort order, from Z to A.

As I mentioned, I don't know how to do that. I'm not sure what is causing it, but it just happens. And then, it changes back somehow.

Go to finder and then to the folder that reverses arrange. You will see the top of the panel, choose the "list" icon then click at the arrow at the right top. It will arrange the folder from a to z or z to a as you like.

Yes, that works now. Not sure which update fixed it, but straight 10.7.0 didn't seem to respond to that consistently. Sometimes it would be reflected in the Icon view, but other times it would not.
