Can't Drag and Drop Anything

I've installed OS X Lion and now when I click on an icon on my desktop and drag it, it follows along nicely, only letting go of the mouse button doesn't drop it. In fact, nothing does. Instead the icon hangs onto the cursor as if I have kept holding down the mouse button. If I want to drag something to the trash, when I hover over the Trash icon and let go, it acts like I'm still holding down the mouse button and instead opens up the Trash folder. It's not limited to trash, it's just where I first noticed it. I can't move files between folders.

This pretty much happens across the board, too. Drag an icon off of the dock to remove it, it just hangs onto the mouse pointer and never goes away. Drag an icon from the icon bar at the top (command-click) and you can pick up the icon and move it, but never drop it. Is there a solution to this?

I just started experiencing this problem on my mid 2009 MB Pro running the latest Lion. I did a test, and found it happening with the trackpad, my magic touchpad, and my Microsoft Intellipoint mouse (which I broke out just for the experiment. I couldn't "drop" anything I picked up, without clicking "Cmd + ." over the item I was originally trying to copy.

Then I put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, the problem ceased.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, I had idea that this application could be related to this issue, but I didn't been sure.

After that when I read your tip, I found this page.

http://theotcspace.com/2012/03/11/airparrot-bug-warning/

Go to [HD]\System\Library\Extensions

sudo rm -r AirParrotDriver.kext/

sudo rm -r APExtFramebuffer.kext/

otherwise sleep / wakeup method is working for me as well

Thanks

I think we have established by now, after 10 pages of posts, that the problem is caused by

  • Air Parrot
  • Air Display
  • Splashtop
  • possibly other display-related software

We have also established that the problem is resolved by

  • Uninstalling the software in question
  • Sometimes putting machine to sleep and waking again
  • Sometimes re-starting the Finder

At this point I really don't think we need to post anything else here until someone comes up with a permanent solution that does NOT involve uninstalling the software, and does NOT require a constant workaround such as re-starting the Finder or putting the machine to sleep and waking it again.

I'm certain we don't need any more posts that mention the issue being caused by Air Parrot or Air Display, and that you can uninstall the software or use one of the workarounds to fix it. We get it. We understand the cause, we understand the workarounds. It doesn't need to be re-told and re-told and re-told. Ten pages on, and we GET it. No new information = no new posts please.

I've started having the drag & drop problem since yesterday. Putting my MacBook Pro to sleep doesn't work and neither does force quitting the finder. Restarting works for a limited time. Yesterday I eliminated Java from my machine (due to the trojan which my mac didn't have) and I wonder if it has anything to do with it? This is really quite annoying!
