Can't Drag and Drop Anything

I've installed OS X Lion and now when I click on an icon on my desktop and drag it, it follows along nicely, only letting go of the mouse button doesn't drop it. In fact, nothing does. Instead the icon hangs onto the cursor as if I have kept holding down the mouse button. If I want to drag something to the trash, when I hover over the Trash icon and let go, it acts like I'm still holding down the mouse button and instead opens up the Trash folder. It's not limited to trash, it's just where I first noticed it. I can't move files between folders.

This pretty much happens across the board, too. Drag an icon off of the dock to remove it, it just hangs onto the mouse pointer and never goes away. Drag an icon from the icon bar at the top (command-click) and you can pick up the icon and move it, but never drop it. Is there a solution to this?

Well, I wanted to post in this thread for two reasons. First to offer an example of this issue occurring on a Mac without a trackpad, and second to show that the only 3rd party drivers on said Mac are ones that have not been used since Snow Leopard. I imagine the cause is not related to the TV tuner, but will check the developer's site to see if there is a new Lion-supported version of their software.

I haven't try the sleep/wake solution yet. I tried relaunching the Finder but it wasn't working.

It happens on my macbook pro mid-2009 and on my girlfriend macbook pro bought in september 2011 when we are using Autocad for Mac 2012. Any other time it's fine, but once we've worked a little bit in Autocad, the drag and drop stick on an item. Frustrating since we are not able to save the file we are working on in AutoCad when the issue starts.

Maybe it's related to the use of the graphic card and drivers when working on Autocad, but we have two differents macbook pro with differents configuration and graphic cards...

I'll try the sleep/wake solution, but it's very annoying. It's this kind of bug and annoyance I was fleeing when I switched to mac a few years ago... Lion has a lot of those, I had to reinstall it on both computer after one week of use because of authorisation issues in a corrupted Library...

Just wanted to add me to the list of people with the drag and drop issue.

Finally upgraded to Lion and so far pretty good, but the drag and drop thing was driving me crazy.

The Sleep work around works perfectly, very bizzare.

Loads of information about it out there and even some videos of the same issue when Lion was in Beta, weird indeed.

Apple, you hear me?

I have been on a dozen of these posts and found that different things work for different people, so I thought I throw my experience in the mix.

I couldn't drag and drop after doing it in the past. I finally realized that my phone was synched to another computer, and although I could copy and paste songs into my phone from the second computer, it wouldn't let me drag and drop.

Since the computer that was synched to my phone got corrupted, I decided to synch to the second comuter that I had been copying and pasting with. It worked. Making that computer the one that my phone synchs to allows me to drag and drop again.

Just one more thing to consider.

op could not drag and drop, the item would get stuck on their cursor.

for you, you could not drop things onto your device. The op couldn't drag or drop, the item, again would get stuck.

I doubt that is what you are referring to here.

For the op and the main bug, it's due to third part drivers called displaylink or the drivers they have made to attach a monitor view usb or with an ipad.

if your issue is differnt then the op and you can't find a solution to the issue, then please post a question about what you specifically are experiencing. If it is different, then creating a new post to ask for help is what I'm saying you should do. That way you will get help with your specific issue. I'm only trying to help, I know half the people here have a different issue, they should all post it in a new thread where they will get the help they need.

Do a PRAM reset PRWFK.

Even though your issue is the same as the op's your computer and applications you're using might be different. What I'm saying is the best thing to do is not hijack this thread with your own issues, even if it's similar, but make your own thread with a well worded instance of what you are experiencing.

what do you mean by hang? you see, these things are separate then the OP's issue. I assume you have drag lock on and it stays on the mouse for a little bit. does it "release" on it's own, or does it just stay on the cursor even when you didn't touch your computer for five or so seconds?
