Lion sound HDMI

I have the same problem with a 2010 MBP 15".

I see my MDP to HDMI listed in sound output, but I don't have sound.

I wish Apple fix the problem quick.

You have to do do this:

"If you left all the peripherals connected while performing the Lion upgrade that may have confused the SMC. Do a SMC reset (it may take 2-3 attempts) and see if that helps. Please follow the instructions carefully.

SMC RESET

Shut down the computer.

Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.

Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Release the power button.

Attach the computers power cable.

Press the power button to turn on the computer.

PRAM RESET

Shut down the computer.

Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

Turn on the computer.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Release the keys."

It worked perfect for me.

I found that re-setting the configuration in the Audio MIDI Setup program (Utilities) fixed it. I am now enjoying the best, drop-out free, multi-channel sound yet through my Apple video card (Radeon HD 5770).

Sound buttons on my 13" MacBook Pro 2011 did not work after updating to Lion.

The PRAM reset worked perfect for me. Thanks!

Thanks all,

I have just upgraded my Mac mini to Lion, and strangely after 3 days and a couple of reboots started experiencing audio output drop outs to external speakers via HDMI.

Did the PRAM reset and it works like a dream.
