Since downloading and installing Safari 5.1, I continue to get pop ups that say "WebProcess wants to connect to....." and then lists some web URLs..

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to stop this.  I can't click on any bookmark without getting multiple warnings.

Same here. I downloaded a bunch of updates from Apple. Now, I get these ANNOYING pop ups that read "WebProcess wants to connect to..."  I wish someone at Apple would have tested Safari before releasing this annoying browser.

Doesn't seem to happen when I use Camino, Firefox or Google Chrome browsers. I'll use one of these browsers instead of Safari. Don't have time to wait for a fix.

Same here. Little Snitch gives me that message since I have updated to Safari 5.1. Never saw it before. I am sure it is nothing, but better safe than sorry...

Are you using a firewall of some kind? WebProcess is a part of Safari in Lion.

I'm on Snow Leopard. My firewall settings were fine before I update Safari.

And you are not running any third party application? In my case the same thing pops up on Snow Leopard, but though Little Snitch.

Yes, I have little snitch. After I kept getting the errors, I went to Little Snitch and turned it off and tried browsing on Safari. Still the same errors.

But if I use other browsers like Camino, Google Chrome or Firefox, I don't get the message at all.

Just upgraded to Little Snitch 2.4 -- no more pop ups, just works, and works fast!

Me too... I just upgraded to Little Snitch 2.4 and no more pop ups... Thanks guys...!!!

Same thing "WebProcess"  blahblah.... pop ups were making me CRAZY!

It looked like Little Snitch warnings - so checked and updated (not upgraded) LS and viola, problems were gone!

I only say updated because there isn't a "lower level" version - this is a new version.  Little Snitch is well worth the price of admission even if it only saves you ONE TIME from creepy stuff.

This was observed and fixed on my MacBook Pro (new machine) - on my Mac Mini 2.0gHz machine running Safari 5.1 and Little Snitch 2.24, the problem has not appeared as of yet.  Strange.

The new Little Snitch has cured the problem. However, I am appalled at how many outgoing requests are generated.  I think Safari should have a tool for controlling this.  But for now, ignorance is bliss.

Same as the posts above, upgrading Little Snitch solved the problem.

Safari 5.1 and “WebProcess”: PROBLEM SOLVED

    The culprit is “Little Snitch”

I am running OS 10.6.8 (Lion-ready). Yesterday, I installed the Safari updater from 5.0.5 to 5.1 . . . and am experiencing repeated and annoying pop-up windows for "WebProcessing."

I found the culprit to be the third-party utility "Little Snitch" — which monitors outgoing internet connections. (

I solved the problem by upgrading (FREE) Little Snitch v2.0.x to v2.4 (for Snow Leopard and Lion).

Fully upgraded both Safari 5.1 and Little Snitch 2.4 - it seemed to work at first, but today I am getting a zillion "web process" warning pop ups again!

Tried EDITing the LS rule - to

    Web Process

    Allow Connections

    Any Server

This seems to have worked, but only have to wonder if I'm leaving too much of an "open port" - or no?

igirl1, this is all fairly new to me, too. My knowledge on this is sparse.

In my Little Snitch "Rules," I'm viewing the many items currently listed under "WebProcess." They all have the green dot and check mark for "Allow" -- as a result of me clicking "Allow" and "Forever" during recent sessions.

Without doing an exhaustive examination of the items, I see that most of them are related to "legiitmate" websites that I have visited; some are websites I routinely visit. For me, those sites raise no "red flags" of concern.

Yesterday, it seemed that EVERY website I visited, I got a series of 3 pop-up windows that had to be "Allowed" (or not). But, today, I'm accessing websites without getting the pop-up windows. And these are websites that I have not visited since upgrading to Safari 5.1. Maybe Little Snitch is smarter than I think, and has a secret knowledge of my wishes. LOL.

Probably, when I make time for it, I'll review each item and see if there are any that I prefer to change, i.e., DISALLOW.

I am encountering these ery same pop-ups ONLY in Safari 5.1 in conjunction with Little Snitch.  An NO, I have not upgraded to Lion (10.7) yet.

These pop-ups do not appear when using FireFox 4.0.
