Go back gesture on Mac OS X Lion

Hi everyone,

I just installed new Mac OS X Lion and the only thing which I am missing is "go back" gesture. In previous version of OS I was able to slide with three fingers to the left (go back) or to the right (go forward). I have used those gestures in Chrome, Finder etc. Why is it not working now in Lion anymore??? Or maybe I just cannot see it??? Thanks in advance

Cheers

This is a problem with the operating system. Apparently it works on the magic mouse and the trackpad but not on the actual computers trackpad. I tried this out and it's correct. I have a magic mouse and a trackpad, the default 4 fingered swipe back and forward works on the bluetooth connected devices but not the actual laptop's trackpad. Hopefully Apple fixes this. I understand your pain because it was very comfortable, I browse all the time and it's sort of annoying having to break out my trackpad every time to use my laptop or having to press the back button as the windows users do.

Go to system preferences and under more gestures select from the drop down menu the option to swipe with two or three fingers to move between pages. You will be able to go back and forth pages with a three finger swipe in finder, app store, iphoto, firefox...etc and at the same time use the two finger swipe feature of OS lion on safari.

honestly... this is bugged.

i put the gestures to three fingers, and it changes back to two.

i checked that there is no other gestures using three fingers sideways and it still changes back to two fingers.

and when it stayed sometimes... i cant really use it on the finder.... till after 3-4 attempts....

this is buggy...

and the pad feels less responsive and sensitive to gestures..

please fix it..

Ok, I have everything working except swiping between fullscreen apps.

1. Go to System Preferences --> Trackpad --> More Gestures

2. Uncheck Swipe between full-screen apps, Mission Control, App Expose, Launchpad, Show Desktop.

3. Set Swipe between pages to Swipe left or right with three fingers or Swipe with two or three fingers. Notice that you should be able to swipe back and forth with three fingers in Finder, but you can't drag with three fingers.

4. Go to System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Point & Click

5. Three finger drag should be disabled. Enable it. Notice now that four finger side swiping will go back and forth in Finder. Safari still retains scrolling left and right to go back and forth in history. But now, three finger dragging will work.

6. You can go back to System Preferences --> Trackpad --> More Gestures and enable Mission Control, App Expose, Launchpad, and Show Desktop. Don't enable Swipe between full-screen apps or else you'll undo everything you just did.

It's a small trade off, but I use Mission Control to see all my apps anyway.

Forgot to mention, make sure to enable Swipe between pages --> Scroll left or right with two fingers.

This method is still buggy. Like, if after you do all of this and four finger swiping appears to not be working, such as in Finder, scroll left and right with two fingers, and then try again with four fingers. It will work now. Really weird, but it works.
