Need to mount Bootcamp what is the alternative since I cannot repair, erase or mount bootcamp from disk utilities?

I have just upgraded to LION, and since then I cannot mount Bootcamp. At boot up, I have error message which says

NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk0s4 at /Volumes/Bootcamp because the following problem occurred

/library/Flesystems/fusefs.fs/support/fusefs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) link error; check the system /kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8). the Macfuse file system is not available (71)

I have the exact same problem too.

NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk0s4 at /Volumes/Windows HD

Did not receive a signal within 15.000000 seconds. Exiting...

I got the fusefs.kext failed to load message earlier, downloaded and installed a Macfuse application, and now I get the above error.

The windows partition would sometimes load, other times doesn't load, but it will always give the above error message.

Help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I am having the same problem as the first poster, but my problem is actually with an external hard disk. It used to work great prior to the Lion upgrade - now I am not able to access the drive through my Mac which is quite maddening as i have a lot of saved work on it. The drive works fine in the windows partition and on other non-lion systems.

This is the latest unofficial MacFuse release: http://www.tuxera.com/mac/macfuse/MacFUSE-Tuxera-2.2.dmg.

It will solve the "fusefs.kext failed to load" problem, and as mentioned by alexhung, it still shows the "Did not receive a signal within 15.000000 seconds", but will allow to mount your volumes.

Without getting too technical, MacFuse is a package needed to understand the storage structure of files and directories (FAT32, NTFS on Windows; ext3, ext4 on Linux) which are not supported by default on Mac OS X (which uses HFS+).

Hi guys, I am new here but I think I have found a solution (it worked for me), without having to uninstall Macfuse or NTFS-3g.

This also solved the problem of Bootcamp partition not appearing in the System Pref. > Initialization Disk.

A. Supposing you have MacFuse and NTFS-3G installed, go to System Pref. > NTFS-3G control pane and under MOUNTED VOLUME OPTIONS you will see BootCamp in the list. Check the box ˜Disable NTFS-3G for this volume˜.

B. In case the BootCamp doesn't show in the list, mount it using the DiskUtility first. Then go to step A.

I suspect the problem is a conflict between NTFS-3G trying to mount it and Apple's OS mounting it.

C. You don't even need to re-boot. BootCamp will now appear in the options of the Initialization Disk.

forget about macfuse - use its successor osxfuse

these versions are working fine for me on Mountain Lion right now :

install osxfuse (current 2.5.0)

(not macfuse which is no longer maintained)

https://github.com/osxfuse/osxfuse/downloads

install ntfs-3g (most recent binary 2010.10.2)

http://sourceforge.net/projects/catacombae/

free version old-ish but ok-ish (gives an ignorable but annoying warning

"Did not receive a signal within 15.000000 seconds." on every mount ).

the workaround for the warning works for me as well
