No Core 2, does that mean no Lion upgrade for me?

I have a MacBook 1,1 Intel Core Duo 2GHz with 2GB of RAM. Am I shut out of upgrading to Lion because I don't have a Core 2?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), MacBook 1,1 Intel Core Duo 2GHz wit

Unfortunately, that's correct. This isn't just an arbitrary decision by Apple to make people get new machines though. The Core Duo was the last 32 bit processor. All processors after that (the Core 2 Duo and up) are 64 bit processors. It is possible to have the OS support both 32 bit and 64 bit (previous versions of OS X have been doing this for years). However, there has to come a time where support for older hardware get dropped in support of keeping the OS clean and efficient. If you don't do this, you end up with a bunch of legacy code that bogs down the performance for everyone and makes for a generally less stable environment. Basically, that's what Windows is.
