Q: "Purchased" function not working

When I click on the "Purchased" link in the iTunes store, iTunes goes to the screen that shows the music, apps and books buttons, but there is nothing else (no lists, no "not in my library" button or anything else).  It also does not allow me to select any of the three buttons previously mentioned.  Just a blank white screen.  This has just been noticed after updating ti 10.4.  Anyone else?

Installing the Quicktime 7.7 update also installs Apple Application Support 2.0.1.  So if you install the Quicktime security update, it breaks the "Purchased" feature in iTunes.

So you can either run a version of Quicktime with a known securiy flaw in it or have access to the purchased items, but not both.

I'll mention that there is a work around, but I don't know what state it leaves your machine in if you do it.

You can uninstall the Apple Application Support from the add/remove control panel and then extract the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file from the iTunes installer executable using a program like 7-zip and run that.  That will install the older 1.5.2 Apple Application Support component.  After doing that you can access purcahsed items.

You can then extract the 2.0.1 AppleApplicationSupport.msi file from the Safari 5.1 setup executable and run that to upgrade back to 2.0.1.

Considering Apple recommends that the Apple Application Support be uninstalled last, I'm not sure what this will do.  I do know that Safari 5.1 refuses to run if Apple Application Support 1.5.2 is installed.

Having separate components is a very bad idea since they tend to have incompatibilities with each other.

I have a work around that allows access to purchased content with Safari and/or Quicktime 7.7 installed, but it's not for the faint of heart.  It basically involves copying the *.dll files out of the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" folder when version 1.5.2 is installed and then upgrading to version 2.0.1 (Quicktime 7.7 or Safari 5.1).

As such I don't recommend you do this unless you know what you are doing, otherwise you will likely have to completely uninstall and reinstall iTunes (or worse).  If you mess things up, don't come to me for help.  You've been warned.

I tested this on Windows XP, but it should work under Vista and 7.

Whenever you want to access your past purchases do the following:

    1. Make iTunes, QuickTime and Safari are not running.  Basically no Apple programs.

    2. Backup all the *.dll files In the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" folder and put them in a safe place.  I zipped them up.

    3. Now delete all the *.dll files.  I simply made a "tmp" folder inside the Apple Application Support folder and moved them there.

    4. Take the *.dll files you save from version 1.5.2 and copy them into the folder.

Now you can run iTunes and access the store and download your past purchases.  Leaving things like this is bad for a number of reasons, so when you are done simply quit iTunes and then remove the 1.5.2 version dll and put the 2.0.1 dll versions back.

Technically you don't need to replace all the *.dll, only about 10 of them, but it's just easier to replace all of them.  Also note that there is one .dll file that is exclusive to 1.5.2 and 5 that are exclusive to 2.0.1.

Totally worked for me.  Windows 7 64-bit, iTunes 10.4.

Thanks so much, I would never have found this except it was linked on Wikipedia for iTunes Version History.

The latest upgrade to iTunes seems fix the "Purchased" function without having to uninstall any program.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

    iTunes 10.4.1.10(latest version)

Working for me as well with iTunes 10.4.1.10 under Windows XP SP3.

Now if Apple would just fix the sync crash, I'd be happy.

Glad to hear my solution worked, guys. And glad to hear the new update solves problems without the need for following the steps. Being gunshy, I think I'll wait a bit longer before updating.

I tried removing and reinstallingversion 10.5 following the instructions

Use the Control Panel to uninstalliTunes and related software components in the following order. Then, restartyour computer.

    1. iTunes
    2. QuickTime
    3. Apple Software Update
    4. Apple Mobile Device Support
    5. Bonjour
    6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    7. safari

Quite simply it did not work on myWindows 7 64 bit computer.

I followed these additional steps toresolve the issue

    1) Run ccleaner and resolve allregistry issues (the uninstall leaves some bad references)

    2) I then downloaded version10.4.0.80x64 from http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=6124 and installed then 10.4.0.80 version.

    3) You need to delete iTuneslibrary.itl it is in your music directory.

Clearly it would be better ifversion 10.5 worked, but 10.4 appears to be more stable.

Mine says 2.1.5 and I have the same issue on Win 7 64bit brand new machine - Purchases are blank.  I have uninstalled several times already with no luck.  I reinstalled the latest iTunes 10.5 for the 64bit, but no luck :-(

Any other ideas?  How do you reinstall without Safari (did not know it was even installing Safari, so can't say it is on my system?)

Andrewcardno solution worked - 10.4.80 is currently working and I really appreciate the fact that people post items that truly help.  Interestingly, apple's download of the same version is 76.3mg and on the old version website that andrew led me to it was 76.8 -could it be the difference, not sure, but it is working.

    THANK YOU!

    Teiws,

You helped a lot of folks and I have the same "purchases" problem.  I am about as un-tech as one can be - so apologies.  I appreciate the help.  You asked if the Apple Application Support said 2.0.1.  Mine says 2.1.6.  Does that matter?  Also, can I really "uninstall all of iTunes" without threat of loosing the downloads when I install iTunes 10.4?  Best regards.
