Q: A connection timeout occurred 802.11n

I just upgraded my i7 MBP to Lion.  I connect to an Airport Express running in dual mode.  I can connect to 802.11g but I get this error when I try to connect to the 802.11 5ghz side.

Failed to join "network"

A connection timeout occured

I have rebooted the Mac and the Airport Express.  No luck.

1.7.1 hasnt fixed my wifi issue.  Laptop keep thinking its in DE and not the correct country code of GB.

When i reboot, it will pick up GB and work until i put the lid down, then when i come out of sleep, it refuses to connect.

I have decided to buy a Time Machine to rule out my home router, if that fails im going to punch a wall!

I've been having the same problem with my Netgear to connect my Imac since the upgrade to Lion, I can only connect via ethernet. By rebooting several time my netgear I manage to get the wireless on my Imac, hope Apple will fix this rapidly.

I run my Airport Extreme as a split a/n and b/g network with different network IDs for both, so they show up as two separate networks and I can make sure I'm always on the 5Ghz one where possible. For some reason in the last couple of days I have been able to connect to the slower network, but I get the connection timeout on the 5Ghz network.

I fixed the problem by opening Keychain Access and deleting all references to my network name. After that the next time I tried to connect I had to enter my wifi password and it connected. Hopefully this helps someone else.

To anyone still having this issue, I recently had to change my wireless password, so I went to change it and came up with this same error, tried to delete it from prefered networks but no avail. I had to go to keychan acess and search for the name of the router, Lion was still trying to keep the old password, you delete that, for me anyways, allows you to connect again to the router

Deleting the entry for SSID for N 5GHz in the Keychain Access has fixed unable to connect problem. I can connect to wireless N 2.4GHz without any problem. Thanks.

I was having the same issue with connecting to a Wireless N router. I disabled WPS on the router and it was able to connect right away.

I had this problem after upgrading to Lion. I found that if I set my Airport to 802.11n 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz I was able to connect. *****. I hope this is fixed soon.

I have MBA 13 latest build with lion, i foud that if I go to network setting panel and delete the wifi protocol/profile in the list of network connections, then wait for the system to recognize that wifi is no loaded, (the wifi icon menu updates to show no wifi installed)  then reinstall a wifi connection/profile via the + button the wifi connection works.  This was th only method that worked.

I've found temporary solution for this issue.

Lion 10.7.1 can connect to 802.11n (2,4 or 5GHz) network if the encryption is turned off on wireless access point. That's a great security risk, but it can be lowered by implementing MAC-filtering (for example).

tgmd's solution worked for me after spending the last three months fiddling and annoyed with this.

    Again:

    • Go into network preferences
    • Remove the Wi-Fi interface from the left column
    • Apply
    • Re-add the Wi-Fi interface
    • Apply

    Then I was golden.

    My firewall was off.

Removing those 2 firewall files :

    com.apple.alf.plist

    com.apple.alf.plist.lock

under /Library/Preferences fixed the problem instantly!

    great!

Many suggestions to solve the same problem of network timeout error. The one that worked for me on my MBP was deleting keychain entries for offending network. I should add that I recently replaced my timecapsule as the primary with an airport extreme base station, moving my timecapsule to a subnetwork.

So far, I have found that deleting ALL the stored passwords for Airport and wireless networks seems to have fixed it, at least for me.  I now have to re-enter a bunch of passwords, but once I do it my Macbook Air is not timing out anymore.  So far...

Well, so much for that idea. After a few tries of it working OK, now I lose the network again when waking from sleep.
