    I was able to get my 1st gen macbook air back on the network following most of the suggestions about deleting old networks and network passwords, HOWEVER;

My macmini (the last version with an optical drive) still didn't work after trying about 50 different things. Finailly I took it to the genious bar. They couldn't get it on the network in Lion. They booted off of an external drice running snow leopard, no network issues. They tried every setting/software fix they could think of. Ended up replacing the airport card within the comupter. YEAH - they had to replace the actual hardware to get that macmini to be able to get on a network via wifi in Lion. CRAZY.

If you've tried all the setting, reinstalls, pulling out of hair, suggested here and your machine still doesn't work, it could be a weird hardware/driver issue like me. Stop going insane and wasting away your weekend trying to figure it out and take it to an apple store to get checked out.

    Good luck!

I found that the following two steps solved the problem for me:

    1. (as already suggested in this thread) delete the reference to the SSID in the Keychain Access app.
    2. Rename the SSID for the 802.11n connection in your Airport/Router

I'm specifically replying to this post on the thread:

    I've this problem too.

I can't connect to my AirPort Extreme after my macbooks rebooted or slept, I try to explain my problem in post - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3598988?tstart=30

I found a quick fix workaround while apple continues to work on the solution. I have detailed the steps in my blog post here. It works nicely for me, so this issue is just a minor annoyance now - not a show stopper.

I am having the same problem connection to "n" on an Asus rt-n56u router.

Below is the log you recommended.

    Thank you,

Why don't you forward this to APPLE?  They should SEE this!

    Chips,

After a futile navigation of the Apple support maze (cleverly designed to force you into a purchase of support) I still do not know where to submit the problem log. Do you know?

    Thanks,

I just upgraded my early 2008 MBP and am having the same issue. The strange thing is wifi seems to work at my home and school, but not at my girlfriends apartment. She's using a Belkin router, so I'm wondering if some setting in the router itself may be the culprit. Earlier I saw someone mention that the wifi country code may be part of the problem, and I noticed that mine seems to think it's South Korea. Is there any way anyone has found to change or reset this country code?

    Thanks,

    Shane

Work around ... to timeout on 5GHz 802.11n connection attempts:

    1) Attempt to connect to any other nearby network,

just enter any random password, system will respond with unknown password.

    2) Attempt to connect to your 802.11n network, now it works.

This a what SimpleSolutions posted in his blog and it worked here too.

One last followup ... the timeout issue only happens on 5GHz 802.11n, no issues with 2.4GHz.

The issue seems to be intermittant , think that is why so many post different solutions here.

A solution appears to work, but it was just luck that the connection occured.

Going to take the laptop to a Apple Store see if they can offer anything else to try or maybe switch the internal wireless card.

I deleted the two preference files

    com.apple.alf.plist

    com.apple.alf.plist.lock

    as Pieter VLB said.

Removed all entries starting with Airport from the keychains as dtptacula said.

Removed the Wi-Fi service in the network panel and restored it as TGMD said.

Re-entered the WPA key on Airport discovery.

    All now working.

    Thank you people.

I understand why airport extreme users are so mad after the 7.6.1 upgrade. Once thing that worked for me:

    - Airport utility, click on your airport extreme device

    - then go to edit tab > then wireless > then Wireless options

    - my radio mode was set to n/g (first option) by default.

Everything has been working since I changed the radio mode to "n only (5GHz). Knocking on wood...

    Hope this will help others.

I'm having the same problem: getting a "Connection Timeout" error when trying to connect to WiFi networks. I'm using an early 2008 MacBook, OSX 10.7.3. For me the problem is not specific to any one network. I have the problem at home (AirPort Express) and at work (Cisco router) and anywhere else I've tried to connect.

For me, I have no problem connecting to a network when there is a direct line of sight between my MacBook and the wireless router. However, if I am in the next room, or anywhere where the WiFi signal has to travel through a wall, I get the connection timeout error--even if the network appears in the WiFi menu with a full signal.

I've tried all the solutions mentioned in this thread but none of them have worked permanently. I just updated to 10.7.3, but the problem persists.
