F5 Firepass VPN and OSX Lion 10.7
Since installing Lion, VPN has stopped working. Will not connect. Has anyone else experienced this?

My RSA SecureID is not loading up, which I use to create my code for VPN (aventail)
Hi, You are not the only one.
For my case, I am able to log in but when I click the link to connect to VPN. It will just say connecting and stop and ask me to install the plug in.
After I install the plug in and restart Safari, the same thing happen again.
SecureID doesn't startup after a new install either. Also, Cisco's VPN doesn't load but Shimo still works. Hopefully there will be a workaround…
You'll have to roll back to Snow Leopard. I wouldn't expect F5 to jump on this, either. It will probably be a long wait before we can use Lion.
It's always the shoulder-shrugging VPN vendors that throw a bucket of cold water on OS X upgrade plans. Sigh.
I've got the same issue. I get the following message when I try to launch SecureID:
RSA SecureID
Error loading the application. Contact your administrator.
I was able to access vpn with lion OS. My IT dept provided me with a token code (not using RSA) as a temporary fix. aventail VPN worked with the token and works well.
Unfortunately, firefox is still not rendering correctly, but that issue will need to be addressed in a different thread.
HI, for those whose VPN is able to work,
Are you able to email me ur F5XXXXXX files at /Library/Internet Plug-ins ?
I just need a working plugin to confirm whether is it due to plug in or not as I am able to log in but not able to connect
Sorry Tian, F5 Firepass VPN really does not work in Lion - for anyone. Most of the replies here are people talking about other VPNs so they're just adding confusion.
I've confirmed it does not work on multiple Lion machines, with Firefox 3.6, 4, 5, Safari 5.1, or Chrome 12. Trying to get some information from F5 but so far they are silent.
Isn't there any workaround? It seems quite bad.
I am an IT personnel and need it to do support work.
This is very bad as it would means we are at the mercy of F5 to decide whether to support or not and for my Infra guys to decide WHEN to apply the fixes.
That's correct - we are at their mercy and they have never seemed very motivated on Mac support issues in the past.
There is a pretty ugly workaround. Run Windows in VMWare, connect from there, and add a route to the VPN from your Mac OS X network interface.
I rolled back one of notebooks until this get's resolved. F5 will hear from me shortly.
This has bitten me, too. For what it's worth, this tweet from F5 says they're working on it. Would've been nice if they had started that process a little earlier. My workaround for now is to boot from the clone drive I made just before installing Lion.
There's also this Python script that supposedly bypasses F5's plugin and works on Lion: http://fuhm.net/software/f5vpn-login/
If anyone could get this working and post a step-by-step walkthrough, I'd be grateful..
Well the tweet is encouraging.
I'm going to give the Python script a try on a different Mac and I'll report back with my findings.
Partially good news - the script got me a connection! Unfortunately, it also blows away all DNS and routes to the public internet until you shut it down. But maybe we can work from here.
Walkthrough:
Download the contents of the f5vpn-login.py and save it into a file of the same name.
Open Terminal. You will need to run this as root with sudo.
sudo python f5vpn-login.py yourusername@your.vpnhost.com
You will be prompted for your password and if all goes well, a list of routes on your VPN will be added and you'll see the message "VPN link is up!" I'm able to remote into VPN systems via their IP addresses but not names.
It will run until you kill the terminal or issue Ctrl-C. When I do that, my internet access and DNS access is immediately restored.
Perhaps a little tweaking and we'll be able to get regular internet and DNS working with this.
Out of curiosity, do you use RSA SecurID with your connection?
