Lion Show Desktop Mission Control Gesture

I agree, the new gestures are buggy at best. Especially show desktop! When I use it, I seem to trigger a different action every time. It's very frustrating. I would love to be able to change the guestures to whatever I want. Four fingers up worked great for me in Snow Leopard too, but that's not even an option any more to to show desktop in Lion. Apple has really limited our ability to customize these features!

The idea of pinching with a thumb and three fingers to show the desktop is just not easy, especially when you are using your MacBook on your laptop.

Yes, the problem with the result I'm getting - the mission control view - is the lack of icons and files on the desktop. That's the exposé function that I'm used to. Thumb and three fingers is getting me launchpad. That's a frustrating lost feature.

At some point, I thought that Control-Down Arrow and/or Control-Up Arrow would toggle me to the exploded desktop view but I cannot seem to get it to work now. I am sure I was able to repeatedly press the Control-Down Arrow and it would cycle through at least 2 or 3 desktop views.

I hope Apple will return the opportunity to show the desktop down swipe four fingers. Give us the opportunity to choose the gesture!

Why you people cry so much and don't like new things ..????

We love new ideas and new solutions. But! Many people use mac os to work (surprise, right?), and some improvements do not allow to perform the work as efficiently as before. We do not ask to cancel something, all we need - a checkbox in the settings of gestures, the ability to return to the previous honedevery detail of the order.

A workaround I've started to use is to set a bottom hot corner for "Show Desktop"

I agree the gesture settings could be a little more configurable.

Perhaps a list of actions on the right side, and a list of gestures on the left, and a simple drag and drop to configure option.

I agree this is a crutch, but at least it's a working workaround. I'll hope we'll see some quick turnaround for patches/upgrades to fix some of these annoying new behaviours.

My success rate is about 25% right now. I'm pretty sure the tablet stylus is a better UX success.

The issue is the fundamental assumption made about people's finger/nails being the same. Some people have their finger skin grow over their nail and some have their nail grow over their finger. When your nail covers your skin regardless of how you cut it, then only about 30% of the possible approach angles can properly trigger a detection on the capacitive sensors.

My thumbnail is the size of a saucer and when my thumb and three fingers come together, my thumb rotates so that nothing but nail is making contact with the track pad. Resulting in inconsistent results.

I hate that I don't get to choose the gesture as tool.. have the same problem with my thumb nail. I did find that if I didn't try to "flick" the motion I could get pretty consistent results.

Rest your thumb and three fingers close together in the center of the track pad. Then slowly move out a little without losing contact with the track pad at all until desired result is seen. Less motion is required and it keeps my thumb's nail from getting in the way. Still... not as fluid or comfortable and wish I had a choice.
